Chapter 60: Epilogue (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

Fuchsia City, my home...
It was great to be back here, but even greater that my friends and many many
acquaintances had turned up for the party which celebrated my win in the Kanto
Pokémon League two days ago.
It took place at Professor Blossom’s, seeing as she had a fairly large garden
usually for keeping Pokémon.
“... I’m overjoyed.” I answered in a series of questions.
“There was a lot of talk between you and your opponent, can you shed any light
on that?” asked one of a group of reporters.
“I’d rather put it behind me, but yes, I’ve known my opponent for several years
and he really knows how to push my buttons, I’m very happy to have beaten him
for the first time since training Pokémon so that I continue my life without
the shadow of him hanging over my head.”
“Thank you Tetsubo, I think we’re just about done with this interview, here’s
your fee.”
“Isn’t this is bit much?” I spluttered upon reading the cheque, “I didn’t
expect- But still, its very helpful and I did just spend my prize money to
help save a life. Thanks.”
“Could we possibly get a picture of you, your Pokémon and your beloved?”
“I don’t see why not, Emily! Over here!” I called, Twinkill had been with me
the whole day so it was already by my side.
She was talking with my mother and politely excused herself from leaving the
conversation before dashing to me and lovingly putting her hands around me.
“Another picture?” she smiled.
“You don’t mind?” I checked.
“Of course not, I might never have the opportunity again...”
I put my arms around her and we both turned to the camera briefly and smiled,
while Twinkill leapt up into a spin to get in the shot.
“Thank you two, the article and picture will be printed in tomorrow’s Pokémon
Planet magazine if you’re interested.” smiled the reporter as his crew left
us.
“I think that’s the last reporter, I’m beat.” I sighed happily.
“Don’t go getting tired yet Sweetie, you’ve still got the rest of the afternoon
to celebrate your amazing win...” grinned Emily.
“Personally I’m about ready to relax in my bed and watch all those Pokémon
League Battle videos that Blossom taped for me.” I yawned.
“Tet’... You might never have this chance again...”
“You saying I won’t win another League?...” I smirked.
“Perhaps, cos the next League win has my name on it.” smiled Emily, briefly
pointing to herself.
“That a fact?...” I grinned, taking advantage of my arm around her and tickling
her.
Emily burst into a fit of giggles and light screams as I kept at it, until she
kissed me that is.
“I thought that would make you stop... But all joking aside, didn’t I tell you
all this time that you could do it? That you could beat Bryan even with all
those enhancements by doing your best as a trainer and believing in your
Pokémon?...”
“You did, I guess this is the one and only time I’ll allow you to say ‘I told
you so’ as many times as you want.”
“Speaking of the Pokémon, where did they get to?”
“At the back behind the fence.”
There, all of my other Pokémon played, rested or ate, especially the six I had
chosen to be on my final team in the Pokémon League, they were tired from the
many pictures that had been taken by many reporters wanting to write articles
about my Pokémon’s stats, personalities and abilities.
A select few of Emily’s Pokémon were also here, Blossom (the Gloom, not the
professor) was with my Vileplume, trying to help it remember who it was before
its sour evolution that changed it into a puppet.
Her Chansey was checking every Pokémon, making sure they were all healthy and
safe, she used to belong to a Pokémon Centre after all.
Her Venusaur was dozing away in the sun where its plant side could get some
light, her Marowak was practising throwing its bone and returning it with great
accuracy and skill, her Ninetales was currently getting some exercise with a
brief run before curling up and sleeping, and finally, Emily’s Omastar was
stationary and showing signs of boredom as my sponsor Professor Blossom was
performing long observations.
“Amazing, such growth so soon after being regenerated from a fossil...” she
noted.
“Blossom!” I called, though both professor and Pokémon turned to me, the Gloom
soon sat back down disappointed while the female professor strolled over.
“Tetsubo, there you are. And hello again little Starmie, I mean Twinkill.”
smiled Blossom, “I’m amazed at how much you’ve developed. I knew you’d be a
great trainer Tetsubo, not just because of your credentials, but because of
your good nature and character.”
“Aw thanks...” I grinned, one hand scratching the back of my head.
“Star...” said Twinkill in the same way performing the same gesture.
“So what do you think of the party?” Blossom asked pleasantly.
“Personally I’m glad you volunteered at the last minute to hold it out here,
there’s more people than I thought would come. I didn’t even know I had a fan
club, let alone so many members.”
“Ninety nine percent female...” said Emily cocking her head to one side.
“Don’t worry Emily, you know I’m not big on twelve to fourteen year olds, its
almost like a hundred Danielles running around.”
“Emily, thank you for letting me view your Omastar, Professor Oak recently
mentioned a lab in the west and since then I’ve wanted to view an ancient
Pokémon for myself, and Tetsubo: You have my eternal gratitude for recording
all 151 entries on the Pokédex, you’ve seen every Pokémon in the Kanto region,
even the rarest Pokémon.”
“I had a little help, and a lot of luck to come across every known Pokémon in
these parts.”
“Don’t be so modest Tetsubo, I remember when you couldn’t put that Pokédex
down.” smiled Emily.
“I’d just like to do a couple more observations, so please enjoy the rest of
the party...” smiled Blossom, turning to a sighing Omastar desperate to use up
its energy instead of standing around.
With Emily’s arm wrapped around mine we went to greet the rest of the close
guests, I know some of you younger readers might detest any kind of intimacy
between boys and girls but just wait until you grow up and yours feelings
change.
I was on cloud nine, I’d beaten the guy that had tried to torture and reduce me
to nothing, I’d won the Pokémon League on my first try, and now one of my
childhood friends and someone very dear to me was now my girlfriend, and we
just didn’t want to let go of each other after the year it took for us to admit
our feelings for each other, forgive each other when things went wrong, find
each other after our separation, and then keep our feelings at a distance until
now.
“So where do we start?” smiled Emily.
“Rick and Veronica are close by.” I nodded, escorting Emily over to them.
“Tetsu’, there you are, I don’t think you guys have been properly introduced.”
said Rick, motioning to his friend.
“Rick, we battled each other in the League, doesn’t that count?” I asked.
“Not really. Ronnie, this is Tetsubo, Tetsubo, Ronnie.” Rick introduced
briefly.
“That’s Veronica.” she corrected as she shook my hand, “No hard feelings about
the way I acted in our battle?”
“Of course not, but shouldn’t I be asking that? I did win after all.” I
questioned.
“I’ll be fine, third out of two hundred and fifty six trainers is good enough
for me.” she replied.
“I don’t think I’ve told you about her, I’ve known Ronnie since I was in
kindergarten, but we only recently started hanging out again after-”
“Ricky, don’t.” she swiftly whispered to interrupt him.
“I was only-”
“You were a Rocket right?” asked Emily with an uncertain worried expression as
she did.
“Emphasis on the ‘Was’, Rick pretty much saved me from that life and put me on
a better path, the reason I’ve always been so distant with you is because I
felt I was being judged.” she answered.
“Its okay Veronica, I don’t judge you for being a Rocket, you had the smarts to
quit.” I spoke.
“You would if you knew better, I’ve done questionable things, I lived many
years of my life with a black and broken heart, but now it beats again and I’m
willing to do everything I can to make up for what I did.” Veronica admitted.
“Glad to hear it.” I replied.
“Rick, may I speak with you in private?” she asked her friend.
“I guess, I’ll catch you later Tetsubo...”
“’Kay...” I called back as Rick departed for the moment.
“Who else shall we talk to?” asked Emily.
“HEY THERE!!!” bellowed Chad.
“Guess we have no choice now...” I grinned, as Chad approached quickly and
slammed a big hand on my back, I clenched my teeth and grinned as pain ran
through me.
“How’s it going?...” I grimaced.
“Hey, I was about to ask that, its great that you won and everything, but don’t
get any ideas about adding to that list, though I may have been tutored by you,
I will surpass you come the next tournament.” he spoke in his usual loud and
positive way.
“You mean the Kanto League?” questioned Emily, “Can you do that?”
“There’s no rule against it Emily.” I spoke, “Trainers that have qualified for
the League and participated don’t even have to reclaim eight badges, they can
just show up next year and participate however much they like, that’s why I
trained extra hard just in case I had to battle any such trainers. But me? I
think I’ll leave the Kanto League for now and give new trainers next year a
better chance at winning.”
“I noticed you’ve got a fan club now, I bet as soon as Danielle hears about
that, she’ll be forcing her way into it and naming herself president.” grinned
Chad.
“You haven’t seen her around have you? I’m trying to celebrate my win and my
new relationship with Emily, and I could do without her vice grip or her going
on about us being ‘soulmates’.” I asked desperately.
“In that case you should thank me, I had a talk with her before your last
battle and convinced her to leave you be until afterwards.” Chad smiled.
“So that means she just might turn up... And no doubt if she’s as big of a fan
as those hundred little girls, she’ll surely hear about me and Emily.” I said
in a worried tone.
“Tetsubo, she’ll get over it. I’ll watch my back just in case but still...”
assured Emily jokingly.
“So what are you going to do now Chad? With the League over there’s not really
much for you here.” I inquired.
“I’ll probably head home to Chalk Town and visit my sister, Bert and sadly
Felicity will probably be there too, I figure we’ll celebrate our getting as
far as we did and then begin another journey. Know this, I’m not ever going to
rest until I win a Pokémon League Tournament, I just need to keep training the
Pokémon I have to be winners.” he explained.
“Just remember your types as well, you have a habit of forgetting things.” I
commented.
“Sure sure, I’m probably going to head south.” thought Chad out loud.
“What’s south?” I asked.
“Check it out.” said Chad, handing me a flyer.
“The Orange League.” I read, “Sail around the Orange Islands and beat 4 out of
8 of the Orange Crew Gym Leaders to challenge the leader of the Orange Crew for
the Winners’ Trophy and a permanent place in the Orange League Hall of Fame...
Interesting.”
“I’m planning on heading there within the week, I’m sure to handle things out
there.” Chad boasted.
“I don’t know, it seems a lot different to Kanto, a lot more sailing for one
thing.” I brought up.
“I’ll find a way, mark my word- Ooh, they have those meat on stick things...
Bye!”
As Chad dashed off to stuff his face, Emily and I decided to move on while we
could.
We turned straight to Abby and managed to stop ourselves before tripping over
her.
“Abby!” we both said fairly loudly.
“Um, hi guys. I made it...” she said softly.
“So?...” I inquired.
With a nod, Abby answered the question I was about to ask, “And its all thanks
to you. Would you like to meet my parents?”
“You’re the one who helped my Abigail...” said a posh voice from behind her, as
a turquoise haired, moustached man in a suit stepped up with a woman with long
red hair in a large expensive dress.
“How can we ever thank you?...” she asked.
“There’s no need, I did it for Abby, not a reward.” I replied.
“Who’d have thought it?” inquired Emily, “Abigail’s parents are... rich folk.”
“Um, could you just call me Abby, please? I’ve gotten attached to that name...
And for future reference, my full name is Abby Worthington...”
“We should have figured you were from an upper class family what with that
accent of yours remaining with you after the amnesia...” I stated, before
noticing a third figure stepping forward, “F, Falkner? What are you doing
here?”
“Isn’t that obvious?” he laughed, “Remember back on the Birdwatchers’ Path when
I told you about my lost sister?”
“’Gail’... as in ‘Abigail’... I should have realised that!” I shouted,
slapping myself on the head.
“Well, it looks like you’ve taken very good care of my little sister, she just
doesn’t shut up about you, you have my eternal thanks Tetsubo, and
congratulations on winning the Pokémon League.” smiled Falkner.
“You’ve been talking about me?” I inquired to Abby.
“I hope you don’t mind, its just that you’re a special part of my life, what
little I remember of it anyway.” blushed Abby, turning away to the side.
“Its not that, its the talking part that I’m surprised by. Is everything going
to be okay? I mean, it must be a little awkward to be placed in a family that
you don’t really know.” I said.
“It’ll be fine Tetsubo.” said Falkner, “I realise Abby has changed but we’re
just glad to have her back no matter what’s on the inside. Though I haven’t
quite gotten used to the new mature attitude...”
“Oh Tetsubo, I was meant to mention this, I visited Scott yesterday at his
home.” said Abby.
“How did things go with his sister?” I asked.
“She’s fine, the operation was a complete success, but... he didn’t stick
around to see her...” Abby answered.
“What?! Why would he do that?” I questioned loudly.
“I think he still blames himself for her ending up in hospital in the first
place, and for making them both orphans. Scott’s got a lot of unresolved
issues that he felt he needed to come to terms with, but I remained with her
long enough to explain that to her and see that an adoption service sorted a
home and a family to stay with. You wouldn’t believe the allowance I get, but
since I’ve lived for so long on so little, it feels right to spend my wealth
helping others... I think that’s how I plan to spend the next few months.”
explained Abby.
“Well just don’t forget to leave me your number so we can keep in contact. I
haven’t decided myself on where to go from here.” I added.
“Ahem.” coughed Emily deliberately.
“Apart from spending time with Emily, of course.” I grinned worryingly as I
corrected myself.
“You two seem... happy together.” spoke Abby with a slightly nervous tone.
“Abby, I-” I tried to say before getting interrupted.
“And I’m happy for you...” added Abby through closed eyes.
“Tetsubo!” screamed out Blossom, as a commotion of sounds were heard from the
area of trees where the Pokémon were.
Abby, Emily and I ran towards it swiftly, with Twinkill propelling itself
through the air to keep up.
There, a hot air balloon with inflated faces of a Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon
as a part of a design rose up, on the basket were several metal rods and lines
to secure the huge net carrying Emily’s and my Pokémon, with Blossom caught in
the crossfire, so to speak, and in the net too.
“I don’t believe this...” I moaned as I saw the Elite Rockets pop their heads
out and brag about the capture.

“We strike during day or night!”
“We attack, with all our might!”
“Don’t mess with us, or we shall fight!”
“We’re pretty good at our rhyme.”
“The masterminds, of crime.”
“We always succeed, every time.”
“Cletus!”
“Cassie!”
“Claus!”
“If y’all got valuables, yuh’d better block it!”
“We put Pokémon in our pocket!”
“We’re the best, so don’t knock it!”
“We are... Elite Rocket!”
