A year after it was written, my old bio was looking a little sad. Old info, old photos, old jokes. However, the acquisition of a scanner and a new (well, second hand) computer made even writing a short autobiography seem fun.
Oh, what am I saying? I love talking about myself.
Full name: Elizabeth Anne Mary Barr (yeah, the Anne was mysteriously misplaced when I began writing fanfic) aka Liz aka Furball aka She of the Eternal Bad Hair Day
Date of birth: June 12, 1982
Height: 153cm (about 5 feet. In other words, short.)
Weight: Ranges from 45kg (underweight) to 55kg (healthy)
Hair: Red-auburn (inherited from my maternal great-grandmother)
Eyes: Well, there's some debate about that. They lurch from grey to blue to green. (My mother and guys who are trying to impress me also say violet, but then we're in Mary-Sue territory)
Nationality: Australian (of Anglo-Celtic descent)
Current occupation: University student. (Bachelor of Arts majoring in Classics and Archaeology)
So, why the website? Why not? It's a glorious shrine to narcissism. I mean, normal people just put some fanfic and maybe a few reviews up on their page. But I put up fanfic and reviews, and then added a few opinion pieces, some original fiction, a few more opinion pieces. I'm about to expand into fan art, too.
About this fanfic..."Hi, my name's Elizabeth and I'm a fanfic-oholic..." I discovered it with my best friend when I was 15, and began writing it shortly after. But the truth is, I've been creating stories about fictional characters since I was 6. The net gave me a name and an outlet for the hobby, and introduced me to others who share my obsession.
Janeway/Chakotay? Janeway was my favourite Voyager character from the beginning, and by some twist of fate, "Resolutions" was the 5th episode I saw. I was a Picard/Crusher fan when I was young, so I guess 'the loneliness of the commanding officer' has been a theme in my life for a long time. It grows depressing, though. I was stunned and pleasantly surprised by a recent episode of Buffy where she asserts her right to a personal life. Maybe it's time to move on ... despite all the letdowns, though, I still hanker for J/C smoochies.
Janeway/Kashyk? "Counterpoint" was a fascinating ep, with layers of meaning and an intricate plot. That depth (plus a few layers not really permissable on network tv) easily translated to fanfic, as I found when I discovered the JetK page. My J/Ka (and Ka/Kes) lacks some of the intensity at JetK, but I still have fun writing it.
erm ... Janeway/Neelix?! I like Janeway. I like Neelix. And I like odd couples. It seems like a natural progression. (I also like the outraged emails I get in response.)
Any other series? I'm currently building my collection of Buffy and Angel stories. It's a great show, and I enjoy writing for it, although I have trouble coming up with ideas.
Current favourite quote: (from a t-shirt based on Lois McMaster Bujold's novels) "Bharaputra Laboratories: who do you want to clone today?"
These are a few of my favourite things:
Political comedy | fanfic | Roman history | indie chick rock | Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan novels | cartoons | anime-style art | Harry Potter | sci-fi | the net | The Wood Wife by Terri Windling | the Whitlams | bad Russian cover art for novels (just like American comics from the 1950s, only without invading Russian armies) | Egypt | drawing | Killing Heidi | Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel | Tad Williams' Otherland novels | chocolate | the Cruel Intentions soundtrack | Garbage | Robin Hobb's novels | Spiderbait | Triple J | Daria | the Buffy soundtrack | Possession by A. S. Byatt | Brisbane bands (Savage Garden, Regurgitator, Custard, Powderfinger etc) | Happyland | Mexican food | Sarah McLachlan | my list-buds at JetC-22 | sushi | lemon-flavoured drinks | mints | Blink 182 | my friends in the Streaking Talaxian ... and this is just the beginning.
And, for posterity, the ego bar:

Awards: people don't often send me awards out of the blue, although I certainly don't discourage the practice. But this turned up, and I'm very grateful that I came to someone's attention.
