Catsuit on a Hot Tin Roof
by Liz Barr July 2001 Doc, 7 rated [PG-13] post "Body and Soul" summary: during his time in Seven's body, the Doctor
makes a shocking discovery: Seven's outfit is really uncomfortable.
After their "shared" meal was finished, the Doctor said, "Seven, there's something else I learned while I was in your body. In fact, I have an apology to make." Seven looked wary. "Proceed." "It's your clothing. I was so busy concentrating on designing a garment with aesthetic and medical properties that I never realised how uncomfortable it was." "I was not aware that clothing was *meant* to be comfortable." "See? That's part of the problem." He produced a parcel. "Which is why I want you to have this." Seven unwrapped it and found soft, loose clothing and peculiar footwear. "You wish me to have vermin-shaped footwear?" "They're not vermin! They're bunny rabbits. *Fluffy* bunny rabbits. Neelix and Naomi helped pick them out." "They ... serve a ritual purpose?" "They're slippers." "'Slippers.'" "To wear when you're relaxing. Imagine how nice you'll feel, regenerating in comfortable pyjamas and rabbit-shaped slippers." Seven examined the pyjamas. They were decorated with pictures of sheep. "People sometimes visit the Cargo Bay while I regenerate. I do not wish to be seen in such ... garments." "The rest of the crew wear pyjamas." "With rabbit slippers?" "Naomi gave a pair to Neelix at Prixin. He likes them very much, and had enough manners to say thankyou for the thoughtful gift." Seven glared at him, then put Lesson 23 ("Graceful
Acceptance") into action. "Thankyou," she said.
Icheb raised an eyebrow when she stepped out of the small partitioned alcove they used to change clothes. "Why are you--" "I don't wish to discuss it," Seven snapped. "Of course." "It's a gift from the Doctor." "I understand." "I'm 'humouring' him." "Yes, Seven." "It's simple courtesy." "Yes, Seven." She frowned. "You disbelieve me." "No! Of course I believe you. Why wouldn't I?" "Your answers are not sincere." "I'm not laughing at you." Icheb groped for words. "I just think you look funny." He wilted under Seven's withering glare and both
stepped into their alcoves and began to regenerate.
