a Christmas story

Ah, Christmas, source of so much sappy fanfic.
Not that Spike and Dru are sappy, but…
Early in the twentieth century…
"Pumpkins," Drusilla said, "and roast goose, cooked in its own blood. Potatoes and fresh bread. And pork." She laughed and clapped her hands together. "I hear them all screaming in the oven while Mother cooks them … beautiful and dead…"
Spike sighed. "Wouldn't you like a nice little boy for Christmas? Alive and screaming … it's blood all warm…"
"Mince pies," Drusilla murmured. "A new bonnet for mother, and new cloaks for us," she twirled, letting her worn dress fan out around her. "What does Angel want for Christmas?" she asked suddenly.
"A bloody kick in the pants," said Spike shortly.
"Oh no, Angel wants a nice plump schoolgirl. And the Slayer, her hair all golden, with a sword in her hand. And some new cufflinks."
"The Slayer's a fat French farmgirl with black hair," Spike pointed out. "Not Angel's type, even if he *didn't* have that bloody soul." And this was Christmas for heaven's sake – he didn't want to be discussing Angel when there were all those humans preparing to engorge themselves, like sheep being fattened for the slaughter. "What do you want, love?" he asked.
Drusilla giggled. "Let's go to Prague," she whispered. "Let's see the city and museums and the people." She licked her lips. "Rich European blood. Like wine. And plum pudding … if you find the threepence you have good luck. We'll have good luck in Prague, Spike."
Spike kissed her and smiled. He'd take her to Prague and they could rest and feed and forget about Angel for a while.
It was the perfect Christmas present.
END
(Just a note -- and this contains spoilers, even if the rest of the story is clean: we don't know exactly when Spike and Dru went to Prague, but "Fool for Love" seems to indicate that it was after the Boxer Rebellion. I'm still guessing early in the twentieth century, although that could get Jossed without warning.)
