Prologue: The Wish That Was Granted
Ranma groaned
internally as the pencil flitted over his homework. “I hate my life…” He
let the assignment finish itself – it was so simple he barely had to think
about it – and rested his head on his other hand with a far off expression.
If father was
alive everything would be different. He was a martial artist! Maybe he would’ve
trained me too, and I could have fun… not like this. School, school! That’s
all I can do, really. Can’t fight, athletics are boring… He didn’t understand
completely why his mother refused to let him train, but he hadn’t really
wanted to before and it was too late now; he was too caught up in his studies.
It was all he had, really. He still kept in shape – there was some instinct
that insisted he do that – but he didn’t really do anything that required
fitness, unless walking to school and back every day counted.
I wonder what
would’ve happened if father hadn’t died… he started to drift off, vision
blurring into black nothingness. Half awake and half asleep, be thought he
heard a voice. A female voice, cracked with age, a razor’s cynical edge to
the simple words she spoke silently.
~Do you really
want to know?~
Huh? Of course
I do! Life would have been so cool…
~Very well then.~
His head slipped
off his hand as he finally made the transition from wakefulness into sleep.
However, before he had a chance to relax completely, his entire body shimmered
and faded from view.
