Woodcarvings

 

Woodcarving is a four-generation tradition in our family.  While working part time for my mother painting her woodcarvings, I have created my own.  I originally start with an idea drawn on paper that I turn into a pattern.  It's then cut out of wood and carved and painted with acrylic artist's paint.  With ears, tails, feet, etc. added last.  Each piece is handmade one at a time so slight variations will occur.  The result- an heirloom quality woodcarving that is made to last.

Although durable, my carvings are not intended as toys for young children.

Fence - #EFF15

The sections of fence are made of thin wood and stained brown.  Each section is 7 1/2" high x 12" long x 2" wide

Carved out of 2" white pine, this old horse has leather ears and a flax mane and tail. Approximately 10 1/2" high x 8 1/2" long x 3" wide.

Pig - #EFF10

Carved out of 1" white pine, this curious little pig is my favorite.  His ears are leather and his tail curly wire.  Approximately 3 1/2" high x 5" long x 2 1/2" wide.

 Feed Trough With Bird - #EFF18

Made out of 1/4" plywood and painted.  Black bird is carved out of 1/2" white pine and permanently attached there is one ear of wooden corn in the trough- perfect for pig.

 Rooster - #EFF2

Carved out of 1" white pine, this red & black rooster has wire legs and a leather comb.  Approximately 3 1/2" high x 3 3/4" long x 2" wide on a 1/2" base.

 Hen - #EFF1

Carved out of 1" white pine, this little red hen is bent pecking corn (painted on the 1/2" thick base).  Her legs are wire and comb is leather.  Approximately 3 1/2" high x 4" long x 2" wide.

Cow - #EFF8

Carved out of 2" white pine, this black and white cow has leather ears & tail.  The brass bell is tied on with jute string. Approximately 7 1/2" high x 8 3/4" long x 3 1/2" wide.

Goat  - #EEF6

Carved out of 1" white pine, this little goat has wooden horns, leather ears, and a flax beard. A small brass bell on a jute string is the finishing touch.  Approximately 4 3/4" high x 4 1/4" x 3" wide.

Carved out of 1" white pine.  My sheep have sponged-on wool and leather ears. Approximately, 3 3/4" high x 4" long x 2 2/3" wide.

Flower Garden - #EFF16

This garden starts with a piece of white pine (either 1/2" or 3/4") with carved edges as a base.  The flowers are made of made of fabric, wood, & wire and then all carefully painted.  Flowers include sunflowers, dahlias, delphinium, & marigold.  These tend to vary the most as I make each one individually and always come up with better ideas.  They will always include the flowers listed above and the colors shown.  Approximately 12"high x 5" long x 4" wide.

 Gertrude - #EFF12

Carved out of 2" white pine, she is one piece with arms and feet added on.  Arms are 3/4" and movable. The flower just picked from the garden is wire, fabric, & wood. Approximately 10 1/2" high x 4 1/2" wide x 3 1/2" deep.

Carved out of 2" white pine.  His arms 3/4" and movable.  The carrot in his hand is made of wood and jute string. Approximately 10 1/2" high x 4 " wide x 4" deep.

 Vegetable Garden - #EFF17

This garden starts with a piece of white pine (either 1/2" or 3/4") with carved edges as a base. The two stalks of corn are made out of wood, leather, fabric, & jute string.  There are two cabbages in front made out of fabric & wood held to the base with wires.  There is also a row of carrots painted on base with jute string tops and a row of radishes painted on the base with fabric tops.  All carefully painted and drilled into the base.  Approximately 11" high x 6 1/2" long x 4" wide.

Carved out of 1" white pine, this red & black rooster has wire legs and a leather comb.  Approximately 3 1/2" high x 3 3/4" long x 2" wide on a 1/2" base.

Carved out of 1" white pine, this dog is braced and ready to fetch that stick.  He has floppy leather ears and leather tail.  Approximately 6" high x 5 1/2" long x 2" wide.

Elizabeth's Family Farm

This farm was designed to be collectable pieces and will always be available individually. They are scaled in size to look right together. Each year I intend to add pieces such as more animals, people, and baby animals to go with the pieces shown here.
