My name is Elizabeth Cameron and I live in Glencairn, a little
seaside village on the False Bay coast of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa. We
are about 40km from Cape Town, about halfway between Cape Town and Cape Point.
We are near to Simons Town which is a Naval port.
My birthday is 20th December.
I'm a Sagittarian, a fire sign and true to form, I explode like a volcano
when mad, then subside till next time! I was born in the Chinese year of the
Snake [a good thing apparently, unlike the Western view of snakes] and am
uncannily true to the characteristics, so am more inclined to give
credence to the Chinese horoscopes than any others.
I love to travel and have lived in England, Brittany in France and
Uruguay, South America visiting Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and
Argentina.
I'm fascinated by the Incas and the old civilizations. I would love to be
able to go back some day.
My favourite colours are blues, greens and violets. I'm not crazy about
pink, but now do use it in my embroidery. My daughters never wore it while young
though!
I have almost the entire collection of DMC embroidery threads, but they keep
adding new colours so I'm never totally up to date. I recently discovered their
rayons and so have started a new collection! I've also discovered random dyed
silks, metallics and all sorts of lovely threads that I can use in my
embroidery. I used to only do cross-stitch, but hardly do any now, as I'm having
too much fun with BDE, Raised Embroidery and Stumpwork.
Fabrics have always been a favourite, I have a vast 'stash' of dress
fabrics and a rapidly growing one of silks, linens etc for embroidery. I even
bought the material for my daughters' wedding dress, with the idea in mind that
scraps can be used for embroidery projects! [It's brocade with a train of ivory
raw silk]
My husband took early retirement at the end of last year, so started the
new century unemployed! However, he's one of those marvelous men who like
housework, so he's taken over running the house, household expenses shopping
etc. All jobs I really do not like doing. My daughter or I do the cooking, but
that's it as he even washes up! It's marvelous as I can honestly indulge myself
in my hobbies without feeling guilty about jobs
I'm not doing.
I have three adult daughters.
My eldest daughter Margaret is a Professional Nursing Sister, qualified in
General, Community and Psychiatric Nursing, Midwifery and ICU Nursing. She
has been living in London, England for the last 18 months, but is back here for
6 months to attend the weddings of her best friend and baby sister. When
she goes back in April next year, she wants to move to Dublin.
My middle daughter Janet has chosen the Alternative Therapies route and is
qualified as a Reflexologist, Reiki Master and I have no idea how many others,
as she has quite an impressive list behind her name. However, she works as an Au
pair to keep life and limb together and her therapy treatments provide the
jam on the bread. She no longer lives at home, but is within an hours drive from
us.
My youngest, Lesley has qualified as a Food Service Manager, which means
she can run a large kitchen in a hospital, restaurant, hotel, etc. She however,
is not over keen on the management side and so concentrated on the practical
side and now works as a Chef at a small restaurant some 10 minutes from home.
She married in March 2001 .
