Drying on the Rack
The drying racks are prepared by placing a layer of hessian on the bottom tier, to catch any berries that fall off the bunches. This photograph shows the rack being prepared for shaking. The berry tray is ready to be removed, and replaced by clean pieces of hessian, known as 'shorts' because they are about 6 metres long, and are placed across the bottom tier, after the berries have been removed.
