The Final Moment
The sweat boxes are stacked 6 high - as high as two strong men can lift. The moment the fruit is picked up by the fork lift marks a change of ownership - the grower's responsibility is completed, and we will be paid according to the quality of the fruit when the truck reaches the Packing House.
Technology has changed the size of the sweatbox, from one two men could lift (shown in these photographs) to one that holds about a tonne of dried fruit, and can only be lifted with a forklift on a tractor.
