ACM They Pressured Us for More Meetings
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 8/8/2003
I wish I had stumbled upon your website before our Orlando vacation in 2001! When we decided to take a Disney vacation in 2001, I ran into a flyer stating 3 nights/4 days for $199 PLUS free disney tickets. Thinking it was a great deal, I called Westgate and signed up.
When we got to Orlando, Westgate said they were full so they sent us off to a hotel where we stayed the whole 3 days. Although my wife and I discussed and agreed we will not buy or sign anything, the strong pressure and sales pitch got us which we came to regret. Although we can afford the monthly payments, it is indeed grating to know that I could have bought a timeshare somewhere else for half the price.
We went back to Westgate to use our timeshare this past June. Having read the stories in your website and knowing that they'll subject us to another sales presentation and try to get us to buy additional timeshares prepared us well this time. I told our "representative" up front that we were not interested in buying any additional shares. He said, "Oh, let's just sit down for breakfast and talk about your account". I said, "Our account is up to date and there's nothing wrong with it". He tried his best to get us to go to breakfast but we steadfastly refused.
We're trying to get rid of our timeshare. We know if we sell it, we'll take a loss... but it's better than paying for the duration.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with everyone...I'm sure they can learn from them.
