BO referred friends for a wedding night - they were sent to a motel
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 1/26/2003
I was "suckered" into buying a timeshare in 1993 in Orlando, Florida. I went to Flordia once a year anyway, and this sounded like such a great deal!! Especially the Getaway Weeks you get!! I am yet to be able to take one because there is never one available. I referred a friend for the Referral Program for their Honeymoon. They paid their $129.00 for the "Special Referral Rate" and when they arrived their on their wedding night, they were put in a motel room!! They were so upset, and I was so embarrassed. I called Westgate to complain, and they did nothing about it.
I tried to sell my timeshare back to Westgate 5 years ago and they told me they could not buy it back, but referred my to Century 21 Real Estate. I called them, they charged me $350.00 for appraisil and listing and I never heard anymore from them.
I pay $400.00 for maintence fee's and the last time my family and I went down there, the carpets were so dirty, our socks would not come clean. I reported this to Westgate and questioned what our $400.00 was for, I was told there wasn't enough time between guests to clean the carpets!! Also when I turned on the jets in the jacuzzi, a bunch of black stuff came out of them and was floating in the water. Yuck!
Westgate is a beautiful place and is convient to all attractions, but by the time you get it paid for with the high interest rates, you're too old to enjoy it, and you could just rent a week at one of the resorts at a lot less.
Each time we go, they want you to schedule time with one of their staff to go over any concerns you have (which never does any good) and they want to sell you another week. When I couldn't meet with them on our last vacation, they became very rude. I did not want to take any time out of my planned vacation to meet with them at my expense. Also on our last trip, we had to have an exterminator come in because of ants, and while he was there, he put long distance calls on our phone and Westgate tried to make me pay for them, but finally gave me credit in the end when I point blank refused. Good luck to all existing Westgate owners, and if you're thinking about buying....BEWARE!!
