Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 4/27/2003
we went to westgate on the 13th april this year after the lady at the hotel told us this was a no obligation tour and would save 200 dollars for a 90 minute tour
when we arrived we filled out the forms and i told the girl i was a trading standards officer working for the british government she had never heard of this job title,(i am not really just thought it might help if they got pushy).
we went for the obligatory breakfast, then put the kids in the games room,we went on the tour while the sales person pumped us for informtion to find which of us was the weakest,i dissmissed her questions out of hand but my wife felt akward and said the resort was nice so the tended to focus on her, once the tour was over the high pressure sales began, for every arguement they gave for buying one i gave a counter arguement for not,ie; poor investment, high interest rates, high maintenance fees, paying 24,000 dollars to own one 52th( i dont now how to express this) of a prefabricated flat because they dont seem to use bricks in florida.
After i rejected the first salesperson, the second one started by offering me a second hand appartment for 10,000 dollars i then asked her if they were such a good investment why this one had dropped 14,000 dollars in two years she went red stamped my form and left
then i got the third sales pitch i could come back anytime in the next three years for one week for 1,395 dollars by this time nearly three hours i had had enough and expalined i worked for the british government investigating timeshare misselling they checked my form asked somebody else wat trading standards officer was stamped my form almost immedieately and we got our tickets,
it was amazing how quickly they changed there tactics when they thought they may have let themselves be investigated
so in future i suggest people tell westgate they work for trading standards,ie the british government and they will get out a lot quicker
