JS Math Proves this is a Bad Deal
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues
Date of Incident: 8/22/2003
My husband and I have had similar bad experiencies with Westgate as you and your readers. I have never encountered such rudeness by representatives of a company that are trying sell something.
>From the word get go, they seemed rather unprofessional and not on the up and up. Now I wonder how I allowed myself to be talked into doing business with them.
I called from overseas to make reservations . I was given a quot and dates sometime in May or June of 2002. When I called back for further info. no information could be found on the system regarding my reservation and despite the fact that there is a recorded message that one gets when one calls that the calls may be monitored the rep. could not do a trace having been furnished with call times and dates.
This new rep. (and I went through about 5 different ones at different times) apologized but explained that she did not understand how someone could book me for the stated dates as those units were booked solid since January of the same year! To appease me she said she would give me a rate reduction.
On reaching Westgate, the registration process was rather long and tedious. We were sent from counter to counter with each rep requesting the same information over and over again. At this pointwe were reminded that we had to participate in a tour. No further details only that it would last for approximately 90 minutes.
On the morning of the tour, we showed up and encountered a very rude representative at the front desk who demanded our credit card which we had left at the Blue Tree resort where we were staying. She promptly stated that we could go on the tour but would have to return another day. We told them that they had the credit card number and other related info. on file as we has provided that over and over again. Her rudeness intensified at the point. We told her that that was the last available day for the tour for us based on our schedule. It was only then that we were learning that if we failed to attend the tour then we would have to pay the full rates for the accommodation. All this time we were under the impression that the we were already quoted final figures. At this point we asked if we could do the tour at the location that we were staying. We were told no. We then offered to pay whatever deposit in cash in the event that we we buying. Again no. Well we had no alternative but to return to our resort as they would not accept us on the tour without our
credit card and they would not accept cash deposit.
On reaching our place of abode we explaind our disgust to the receptionist who promptly got an on site sales rep to speak with up. He in turn told us that we could do the tour there and although we said we were not interested he insisted and proceeded to take up 3-4 hours of our day. When we took the children to the water park it was closed!
Everything was sugar quoted and the manager was called to intervene and she was so sorry for the trauma that the regular price was approx. $21, 000.00 but she was going to sell us one that was up for foreclosure for approx. 50% of the original cost.
The agreement was hurried done. No TIME TO LOOK CAREFULLY AT ANYTHING . I think this kind of thing should be outlawed. It is only now that we are trying
to get rid of this piece of millstone that I realize why they were insting on credit card.
I relly feel like a hostage. The way they conduct business is nothing short of imoral. I have tried without success to get out of this contract. Nothing I try works. There is no one to talk to and they refuse to even take it back and keep the money that I have already paid.
I have been told that my account will be forwarded to a collection agency to whom I will have to pay a fee AND THAT FAILURE TO PAY on my part will result in my credit being severly affected.
Do these people have no heart? How do they sleep at nights? How do they live with themselves? Something needs to be done besides my telling everyone in my
ltttle time share mecca and your readers exactly what I think about West gate.
Besides the fact that we can no longer afford the payments, it's not worth it!
Do the math and you will see.
If you do hear of a way for us to make a clean break do let us know. We cant wait.
