LSR We Had to Fight to Cancel
Westgate Timeshare Resort Issues

Date of Incident: 10/6/2003

Great website!

I just booked a "vacation" with Westgate Lakes last night and after I discussed it with my husband further, we decided to cancel. When I called customer service to cancel (24 hours later, well within the 14 day cancellation policy), I was first told I had wait 72 hours for another salesperson to call me back to cancel. I said that this was not acceptable and she said that she needed to talk to her manager. She then put me on hold for over 20 minutes, I continued to insist that I speak with a manager. When the manager finally got on the phone, she said "can't you use this sometime within the next year or even a year and a half?" I firmly said no, and asked for a cancellation number. She said that she was unable to do that as she does not have the 'legal forms' to make a cancellation. (By the way, my husband, who is a lawyer, had no idea what she meant by 'legal forms')She said that she would send the information to another department and to expect my refund within the next 10-14 days. I then asked her "why does it take that long"? and she had no answer other than to say that if 'you have financial difficulties I'm just letting you know that it can take up to 14 days". At this point I was insulted and asked her her name which is Sarah Thompson. She refused to send me an email confirmation or give me a cancellation number so I took the matter in my own hands and called my credit card bank to dispute the charge.

I could only imagine, "if they are this rude over cancelling a $99 reservation, imagine how rude they could be in the timeshare presentation". It was later the sam evening when I found your website on Google.

We have never owned a timeshare and have never gone to a timeshare presentation. I am so glad I cancelled prior to the trip and thank you for your excellent website. If you need any more information from me, please don't hesitate to email. I wish we could get your site linked to epinions. I tried to write an opinion on that site but my computer had a glitch.

Thanks!
