Monday, June 16, 2003 Dear friends, Just a quick note to check in. No real change in my health. I continue to balance my graft vs host disease (GVH), medications and med side effects. The way I feel is quite variable and can really limit my activities. But that said, I am doing a lot. I have been speaking and signing books, birding, walking and providing support to an ever growing number of people with cancer. I find this last richly satisfying and clearly my heart's work. You can visit my book web site at www.notjustapatient.com Becky finished up finals last week at Montpelier High School and is in the process of selecting courses for the fall at Simon's Rock College. A very exciting time. And she and Susan Sussman head off to France in a couple weeks for a long-planned trip. Steve and I plan to go to the Adirondacks for a little vacation and then over to Cornell while they are away. My flower gardens have been completely dug up and almost replanted thanks to the help of Jean Vissering and lots of friends. It was magical watching my yard transformed. Gardening is still a banned activity for me because of my immune suppression but now I can enjoy being outside surrounded by beautiful gardens. Thanks to all those who helped. And there is still plenty of weeding for anyone who still wants to assist. For those of you in central Vermont, I hope to see you at my reading at Bear Pond Books on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:00. Thanks for all of your ongoing support and caring. I know it is part of what has carried me forward. E |
