NYSF!

You're wondering (with my psychic powers i can tell!) what the heading means, and what it stands for. NYSF is short for The National Youth Science Forum, a forum held in Canberra each summer for about 288 lucky, budding scientists, who are about to head into year 12.

Canberra and SCIENCE? Deadly combination? Well NYSF holds nothing for you if you're not interested in science, but don't let the thought of spending two weeks in Canberra stop you from applying, instead think of how much fun it would be to spend two weeks parentless, with only 3 or 4 adults supervising you, with a group of 140ish other people your age!

Sound good? I thought so! If you're in year 11, or getting there, and are thinking you might like to apply to NYSF, go to the official NYSF page, and ask your science teacher for details. The page is currently under construction, so you may have to wait a while to see it in its full glory, however, it's still a useful source for information.

YSA!

YSA Stands for Young Scientists of Australia. Yes, it's another of my sciency "things". For me, joining was a way of giving something back to the scientific community, who gave me such wonderful opportunities in the form of NYSF. But it seems since I joined, all I've had is fun. Much like NYSF, YSA allows young people with a scientific bent to gather with others of similar interests. And not always to conduct scientific activities either, it's all about having fun together.

YSA has chapters (local branches if you like) in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and, as of the start of this year, Adelaide also. If your city doesn't have a chapter yet, and you think it should, get in touch with one of the other presidents, and get help starting your own chapter. If you're interested, visit the YSA web page, and get in touch with your local YSA president.
