The Casual Restaurant Critic

You might agree or disagree with my opinions, but that's life, isn't it? And no, I get no commissions or kickbacks from any of the places favorably reviewed - I do this entirely for my own amusement and your information.

Quick Picks (this was the Critic's first time reviewing)
Meat 'n' Salads
This nifty little graphic links you to it's creator...When you're in the mood for a quality steak, Laredo's (Av. Prol. Montejo, near the Banamex bank) is always a good bet; just bear with the impatient waiter, who will foot-tappingly take your order after literally tossing the menu at you. If you have kids, don't take them 'cuz they're not real welcome.

...so does this one...Rodizio (Av. Prol. Montejo, near the Honda dealership and across from Hamek) is another meaty option, famous for it's espadas, which are skewers of meat brought to your table Brazilian-style. On your table is a little circular coaster thingie that is green on one side (bring on the meat!!!) and red on the other (Stop! I can't eat another bite!) Although some cuts are chewy and occasionally severely charbroiled, there's always something decent and the salad bar show some real imagination, as opposed to the classic green tomato slices and limp iceberg lettuce with vinegar and oil served at so many local restaurants. Service here has been consistently good; a true rarity in Merida.

mmm good - go take a look!
Speaking of salads, it seems ludicrous to me, but the most surtido salad bar in town is Wendy's (At the end of the Av. Prol. Montejo, beside the Gran Plaza), of all places. The place used to be kind of falling apart due to a Yucatecan owner who was busy with other things like dumping rocks in the Gulf of Mexico, but Wendy's has since bought him out and recuperated the franchise and their burgers are tops once again.

One of these days, I'll get into the Rise and Fall of Crepes by Clod and the HongKong Vs. Pagoda Oriental Palate Pleaser Battle.
And maybe I'll touch on the Mr. Papa rip-off Don Potato, the latter having copied the logo (and concept) from the former who in turn shamelessly 'borrowed' it from that Mr. PotatoHead game featured in Toy Story.
Go visit Mr. PotatoHead's Official Site!
Happy eating!
