NotTheNews Bad for Tourism? Gimme a Break!
Local critics accuse NotTheNews of driving unsuspecting tourists away by writing this drivel! As if my eleven regular readers were so innocent as to take this all seriously!
On the other hand, and much more alienating, is this blockade in front of the El Castellano hotel, which has the misfortune to be located next to an office of the Congressional Council, where watchful, torta & juguito consuming PRI members are keeping a watchful eye out that no unauthorized persons enter the Council building.
How is this affecting tourism? What about the hotel that recently reopened after a long closure and has spent major dollars promoting and advertising? What do hotel guests think when they can't drive their rental car up to the front door? Or when they step out of their hotel in the morning to find these specimens of Yucatecan political rear-end kissing culture practically on their doorstep, protesting something they, as tourists, could care less about? Nevertheless, these anti-outsider reactionary philistines paint a picture that differs just a little from the official propaganda that brags about Merida being a peaceful sleepy little colonial jewel, full of happy hobbit-like inhabitants that love foreigners and are really content with life in their little paradise...
I agree it's a lousy photo but it's scanned from the newspaper...
