Uncategorizable Stuff

The pictures that defy pigeon-holing. Nothing serious, just a mish-mash of stuff.

You may recall an article in one of the Back Issues referring to the Carrefour glorieta and the 'lifeless tree' in the middle of it. These are the last and probably only photos of that tree, being hacked down with a machete and ax. The image quality leaves much to be desired, but perhaps in the enlarged photo you can make out the guy with the machete in the branches.

January, 2000 - If you look closely enough you will see that this photo is actually from somewhere in the southern U.S. I thought it was worth including since when driving in the Yucatan, especially Merida, you will often see these little critters squashed on the roads and streets. Called zorros, they have little to do with the real zorros of Fox and the Hound fame or even Antonio Banderas for that matter. They are more like oversize rats that feed on any kind of garbage left by humans (they have a field day in temporada at Chelem!), carry the occasional tick and will play dead when threatened. All in all a disgusting animal.
