The band Elmer consists of three members, Matt Dixon on guitar and vocals, Scott Mason on drums , and Sam Green on keyboards.
Elmer was formed New Years Day 1999, it was about 2:00 am . Scott was over at Matt's house to bring in the New Year. Matt had met Scott about four years ago when he started dating Scott's younger sister Shannon. Matt had seen Scott play before and new he had a tight meter, and the ability to beat the living hell out of his drum kit. ( This was exactly what Matt had been looking for .)
A few months prior Matt had decided that he was going to put his own band together. Matt had been in many other bands over the years but all of them had broken up for one reason or another. Scott hadn't played his drums for over three years but that didnt stop him from accepting Matt's offer. The two of them practiced once a week for a few months, trying out new material , and getting a feel for their sound. Both Scott , and Matt felt that personlity was going to be the most inportant factor in determining who would complete their trio. The first person that came to Matt's mind was his Friend Sam Who was a very acomplished classical pianist with a love for heavy music. Matt had been working with Sam for many years at Gann's Music Center and had played in numerous bands with him before.The only problem, Sam didnt play bass.
This was easily fixed by using synthesied bass sounds on his key board. In many ways this was better than a bass, Because Sam could play lower , fuller , and have sounds that a conventional bass guitar could never achieve. The result is a very unique sound that can only be described as ELMER.
