Escape
(2003)
Everlasting nightgown
caressing the floor as she spins
dancing
Melodramatic giggles escape from her lips
as she offers her hand to an invisible prince
Soft young feet twist on the wood
that wears from years of dancing
She is the princess of seven young years
at the masquerade ball
in a lovely dream
Yet as the princess lives
her sister dies
dancing
to a different tune
Short black nightgown worn from more years than the princess
because she has seen
more sadness
more suffering
Her view on life churns weakly into something silencing
Instead of dream filled with cupcakes and white horses
she wakes up screaming to a terrible nightmare
which she has grown to love
Those now comforting razor bladed
slashes, strawberry gashes
Next door to each other as they are
yet lives so incredibly different
and views on life so suffocatingly sufficient
on whether they keep breathing
Keep on living
Because they have each other
A warm, warm sisterly embrace
that keeps the razors away
that keeps the princess there
In the arms of the older crying sister
who just wants that warm embrace
Who just wants
to be loved by this girl
Her royal sister
and have a different escape from life
A softer escape
Into her magical world
