ˇ TROOP 267 NEWSLETTER !

News from the Scout Master

I would like to welcome all the new boys and leaders into the Troop.  I look forward to watching the boys grow in the program and become young adults. It’s truly amazing the difference when I look back at the boys who are now 16, 17 and remember them at 11.  We have an exiting June and July coming up with the Daniel Boone and of course the highlight of the year summer camp down at Camp Rodney.  I would like to also welcome all the new parents and encourage everyone to get involved in some way to help your son have the best experience possible. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to approach me at any time to discuss or give me a call .

 Yours in Scouting,

Ed S.

Service by Troop 267

In February, the Troop assisted Pack 267 by serving them at the Blue & Gold Banquet.

On a rainy Saturday, April 8 morning, several scouts helped with the cleanup of Stony Creek with the Stony Creek Anglers.  Although the weather was not the best, the breakfast and lunch was good and it was lots of fun finding the headless angel.

On Sunday, May 7, six scouts went to Perkiomen Park in Oaks for the MS Walk. They walked approximately 4 miles and raised over $400.00 for the Multiple Sclerosis.  Thank you to Trevor F. for setting this up and being the captain of the team.

Troop 267 Camps

Troop 267 enjoys camping!  In March, the troop invited Pack 267 for an outdoor skills day at Heyser’s. During this event, the troop and Webelos built a bridge across the creek.  The following is a view of camping trips written by Marty V

In the past few months, Boy Scout Troop 267 has experienced many outdoor – survival lessons by going to various camping trips.  First up was at the fish hatchery.  We went after the bridging ceremony.  There we played in fields, had fabulous campfires, played with our friends and scout leaders and just enjoyed ourselves.  It was a blast!

Second, we went to the annual Spring Camporee, which is similar to the fish hatchery, but we got to go to a big campfire where we listened to songs and skits.  This was a blast as well.  Also, the Spring Camporee had an international theme.  Each troop represented a country.  We were Ireland.  We wore kilts, ran a caber toss and had corn beef and cabbage for dinner.  The troop got along just fine and we had a great time.

Other Activities in 2006

In January, the troop participated in the district Klondike Derby.  We entered 3 sleds and placed 4th, 12th and 21st out of 34 sleds.  In March, we participated in the Bob Berger Memorial First Aid Meet and placed 3rd out of 8 patrols. Thanks to Trevor F. making the arrangements, the Troop was able to do their swim testing for summer camp and have some water fun during May.

A Word from Our Committee Chair

I have been Chairman of the Troop 267 Committee for about 3 months.   I was never a scout and have only been involved since my oldest son, Tim, became a tiger cub six years ago.  So Boy Scouts is very new to me and I have a lot to learn, but I am committed to the success of this Troop and have enjoyed a smooth transition.  I am grateful to the parents and committee members who have helped train me, especially Ed H. and Ed S..  For those of you who haven't heard, I have replaced Ed H. as Committee Chair but Ed is not leaving.  He is now our Chartered Institutional Representative and will continue to be active with Troop 267.

I am excited about the many parents who volunteer to help lead this troop.  I have visited other troops and packs, but have never seen such a high level of parental help as I do in Troop 267.  All parents are welcome at any of our committee meetings.  We meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7:30 in the Scout Room.  We welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions.

I am also enthused by the attitude of the Scouts in this Troop.  This is truly a great group of young men.  I extend a special welcome to the new Scouts who have recently crossed over from the Cub Pack.  During my two years as a den leader, I got to know these boys and I am extremely proud of their accomplishments as Webelos.  They come to the Troop with high energy and a desire to learn.  This should be a fun ride!

Yours in Scouting,

Chris D.
