SYLLABUS
YI 210 APPROACHES & METHODS IN ELT
YI -21 0 Approaches and Methods in ELT
2000-2001 Academic Year. Spring Term

Class Hours: 3 hours a week. ( for schedu1e refer to the bulletin board of ELT Department) 

OBJECTIVES:

1. Students will be aware of the distinctions among the basic concepts; approach, metlıod, and technique
2. Students will be aware of the 1anguage  leeming theories.
3. Students will leam the main points, strengths and drawvbacks of various teaching methods and techniques used in language teaching.

EVALUATION OF THE COURSE:
a.) There will be a formal sit-down mid-term, and a final exam (30 and 50% each respectively).
b ) You will prepare presentations and projects on the application of each rnethod and teacing skills. These project will be graded directly as part of one/both of the formal exams %20.


REQUIREMENTS of THE COURSE:

For this course each student will be required to:

   1. ATTEND CLASS REGULARLY. Attend class regularly and participate in discussions. You are expected to contribute to class discussions and to be prepared for every assignment.

   2. DON'T BE LATE. Two tardies and/or early departures is equal to one absence.

   3. COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS. Satisfactorily complete periodic assignments. Complete readings/articles prior to class.

   4. Participate in a TEAM PROJECT/PRESENTATIONS: Groups of 3-4 students each will choose one of the  presentation topics and present it in class. Every students in class will be responsible from all presentation subjects.

   5. Create an INDIVIDUAL PROJECT:  Project subject will be given after Bayram Holiday.

   6. Class participation is vital. I expect you to contribute to class discussions and to be prepared for every assignment.

  7. Every student will have an email account to submit their weekly assignments.

   8. Complete other activities assigned by instructor and not noted here.

  9. Have fun! Teaching is one of the greatest privileges on earth!

W14 (21-25 May). Comparing and contrasting all methods and approaches for Turkish context.
