If he didn't have a face
would you carry a lighter load?
Would it lessen the guilt you feel
when he falls motionless to the road?

If he didn't have a face
would you be eager to put him down?
Would it lift your ego up
to turn his happiness into a frown?

If he didn't have a face
would he be easier to ignore?
Would you forget he was on that milk carton,
and the life he'd lived before?

If he didn't have a face
would he be easier to replace?
Would you still tell him you love him
while you live in your disgrace?

If he didn't have a face
would you keep walking as he plummeted to the ground?
Would you have forgotten until you read
that he'd jumped because his life was turned upside down?

If he didn't have a face
would it be easier to lie?
Would you even feel sorry
when he cried and screamed at the sky?

If he didn't have a face
would it be easier to put him in the grave?
Would you hold your emotions in
because you were always told to be brave?

If he didn't have a face
would he have been easier to kill?
Would you blame his death on himself
when it was really your own free will?

If he didn't have a face
would he be easier to lose?
Would you make better choices
if you had the power to re-choose?

If he didn't have a face
would he be easier to forget?
Would he, as he's sleeping on the street corner,
be someone you wish you'd never met?

If he didn't have a face
would it be easier to turn your head away?
Would it not overwhelm you with guilt
that you couldn't spare a penny to give him a brighter day?
