Darling issue 4/00, the animal issue
(Darling is a Swedish magazine that started out as a netmagazine in 1998. After success they were bought by an internet company and were then able to publish in print. The magazine has an edgy sort of style and is somewhat unconventional compared to most magazines for young people.)

Embrace - settled indiekids

British band Embrace have been blamed for being inflatable symphony rockers and whinging moodies. But when you meet singer Danny McNamara and keyboardplayer Mick Dale you realize they are just really nice, open guys who feel bad after too much whiskey and Frank Sinatra covers the night before.

Does one get many groupies as a 'popboy'?
Danny: Not as many as you think. Maybe if you're a boyband or a hard rockband in leather or something. But if you play slightly depressing guitar pop you don't really need to worry about slipping over people who want to sleep with you all the time.
Mick: We are all settled as well, so we watch ourselves. I am very happy with my girlfriend (MAJOR mistake, Mick is openly gay, I'm guessing he used the term 'partner' and the interviewer just assumed it is a woman, webmaster's note) and would never risk losing it for a quick fix with someone I don't know in a cheap hotel.
Danny: However, one night stands can lead to good things anyway. My relationship started as one and now we're here. Three years later.

Is it possible to have really good sex without love?
Mick: Of course! Dogs do it all the time.
Danny: What would you know about that? Maybe the dogs love eachother very much! But it feels a bit as guys are better at seperating the two than girls are. Or the girls just lie.

Must you like football and talk shit about other artists if you're in an English indieband?
Danny: Firstly, football is crap (hhhmmm…webmaster's note). Secondly, music will always be cooler.
Mick: Everybody asks you how you feel about certain bands and we have nothing to lose by telling the truth. It's the easiest thing being nice and friendly all the time but I'd rather be honest. If I hear something that stinks I'm going to say it.
