Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki Review (OAV)

by Emerald

Based from manga by Kodaka Kazuma

Rating (applicable for the OAVs only): PG-13, for shounen ai/yaoi themes

Description: Funny and cute

Short and sweet. Kusatta is a light-hearted OAV which is good to watch just for a few giggles and shounen ai fun.

The OAV centers on Arisawa Atsushi, a freshman in search for his first love --- his previous neighbor and many years his senior. Basically, it is a story of love polygons, misunderstandings, stubborn love, sweet denial and UST's (Unresolved Sexual Tensions).

Arisawa is the typical damsel-in-distress, as is Masami. Characters like Inagaki and Masayoshi make up for these, though. Their cunning and friendly rivalry adds zest to the animation, plus a few smirks.

If you're into deep plot intricacies and characters with dark pasts then this is not for you. Call it shallow, if you must, but this is purely romantic comedy in its shounen ai goodness. Nothing graphic. It can be frustrating, actually, as even the kisses are left hanging, if not interrupted. The manga could prove to be more interesting, which is of course, highly understandable as the OAV only features the first parts of the manga.
