THE CROCKETTS

After playing festivals and village fetes around Europe, The Crocketts are baack in Blighty.  They’ve recently finished their own tour and are going off again supporting The Supernaturals and the tree hugging Levellers.  They released their debut album ‘We may be Skinny and Wirey’, recently which was well received.  Since the summer they’ve been writing and recording in the pub which is probably where they did this interview:

For the interests of those innocent people who’ve been protected from The Crocketts until now, could you please introduce yourselves?

We are Davey Robert Georges Fame Pedro Crockett, who sings and plays acoustic guitar, Daniel Boone plays electric guitar and sings backing vocals, Richard Wurzel Turpin plays bass and sings backing vocals and Owen Cash who drums.

How would you describe your music?

Country punk, Shane MacGowan meets Metallica down the pub, full on.

When did you first meet and form the band?

We formed in Aberystwyth in 1997.  We’d all travelled to Aber to be dustbin men and we met in the local job centre.

What music did you grow up with and do bands today still inspire you?

None of us were really into music before we joined the band.  Now we all listen to loads of stuff and argue what to put on in the van.  Other bands do inspire us; we see them live and are inspired to kick their arse.

Who would you most like to support or have support you?

Davey’s had his wish, i.e. Shane MacGowan.  Neil Young, Captain Beefheart and Metallica would be quite good.

What's your famous song ‘Will you still Care?’ about?

Davey wrote the song, apparently it’s a boy meets girl, things are fine then go pear shaped.  That’s my (Richard) perspective thought.

What do you drink after a long gig?

We drink our favourites – cider followed by tequila (not sensible, but good).  However the worst thing, which everyone agrees, is the next morning.

Are you going to become the biggest ‘country punk’ band ever and rule the world?

Hopefully, it would be nice to own Australia.

Finally, the novelty question, which football teams do you support?

Davey:  Ireland

Owen: Aber Town, Swansea and Wales

Dan: West Ham

Richard:  Manchester United.  It’s a family thing, less hassle.
