Living in the Now: simple but not always that easy.

By; Tony DeLiso, author of  Legacy: The Power Within

Planning for tomorrow is a fine practice. Remembering yesterday is a fine practice too, but don't waste your time living in the past or the future. The reality is that you only exist in the now.

Planning for tomorrow is a fine practice. Remembering yesterday is a fine practice too. The first reinforces and insures the achievement of goals and the latter is a tool for reflection and learning.
Too often, many years ago, I couldn’t wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow promised to bring a much better life for me. Everything I did back then was for the future, or that I couldn’t do until tomorrow. I learned, back then, to blame my past for many of the things I didn’t like about my life.
In reflecting, I found that based on my attitude at that time, I couldn’t have enjoyed much more of my life in the past than I did. And from that reflection, I learned something important to me which is, not to wait for tomorrow to enjoy family, my friends, and myself.
The fact of the matter is that there is only now; the present. It is the only reality we do actually live in all of the time. “In the Now” we can remember the past and plan for the future, but more importantly, mindfully enjoy doing whatever we are doing in the now; today. I still think and plan for the future. I now reflect on the past instead of blaming and complaining. And now it seems, I have more time to spend doing what I like to do in the present, such as; teach, socialize, write, create and take life a little easier, and I don’t wait for tomorrow nearly as much.
My advice, if you will, is that you make it a habit of enjoying today and each day as you awaken until you go back to sleep. You can start practicing living in the NOW by putting your attention on the people and things you care about daily. You might also consider getting rid habits that don’t serve you well. Old lifestyle habits that don’t bring you peace and happiness can be broken over time and replaced with habits that bring you love, health, self-expression and wealth.
