English Essay

Me and my English

Like all the other Finnish kids I started to study English on the third grade which means that that I was nine then. During the time I have tried to improve it by going to England for a language course and speaking to English speaking exchange students. I was also in the debating club last winter. I would say that in this 2B class my skills are about the average. Maybe a bit under it. As a subject English has been mostly boring but I like the language specially now when I use it every day. The worst part in English is to read grammar and words. Usually I have been more interested in using the language and not learning some small words which you do not need at all. Maybe because of the boringness of the grammar my writings have sometimes too many spelling mistakes. Actually I like to write essays because for me it is easy to create text. I have to say that sometimes it is really hard to write because of the topic specially when the topic is full of long complicated words which I cannot understand!

I have to say that for me it is easy to learn IF I really get an inspiration that I want to learn something. Unfortunate this inspiration does not pop up easily. I hope that during the lessons I would get a learning inspiration! At least I mostly do everything what is required and learn during the work. I think that it is nice to study when the teacher is inspiring and the exercises are interesting. For example the topics are connected to us, youngsters so then it is easy to make an own opinion!

During the Pre-IB year and the last summer we read the Catcher in Rye, the Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet and Wintergreen. We had discussions, presentations and essay writing about the two first books. I liked some discussions and some presentations but I think we had too much of them and that is why it got really boring. In the future I would like to read really famous texts and books like Romeo and Juliet was. When you have heard about the book before then it is a bit more interesting to read it. During the Pre-IB year we discussed quite much which I liked even if I am not a “talking machine”. Once we had a debate and I liked it.
