The Promises and Dreams

by Rachel Frankel

Pokemon Disclaimer: I do not own pokemon, or any of the characters except for Alysha, Michelle, Ashley, Rachel, or Drippy. The one attack I own is Rainbow Gun. I also do not own Adidas, but I have their cool shoes and jacket!

I dedicate this story to my boyfriend who, in fact, is named Ash.

Chapter 1

It was a beautiful day in Pallet Town. Ash rose up with the sun, ready to continue training with Misty.

************************************************************

"Boy, that was a good rest. Hey Misty, time to wake up!"

Misty groggily woke up.

"Oh Ash, why did you have to wake me up at 6…oh, look!"

Ash looked out his window. He saw the sun coming up over the distant Mount Moon.

"Wow! It’s so beautiful!"

Ash half closed his eyes, looking at Misty.

Misty sure looks beautiful with the sun glistening on her face. I wish I could just tell her everything right now.

"Ooooh, Nurse Joy…aaahhh." Tracey muttered.

"Aaaahh…Officer Jenny…" Brock said.

"Should we wake them up?" Ash asked.

"No. Let’s start training!" Misty exclaimed.

Three hours later…

"Seaking, go!" Misty yelled.

"Lapras, go!" Ash yelled.

Misty and Ash were training in an old gym. Misty was training hard for the Water League, which happens every 2

years and does not require badges.

"Lapras, Icebeam!"Ash commanded.

"Seaking, go underwater!"

Seaking dodged the powerful beam, and came up out of the water with a powerful wave that knocked Lapras out.

"Oh, Lapras, are you okay?" Misty worriedly asked as she sat beside it.

Lapras whistled cheerfully.

Ash watched Misty hug Lapras.

"Misty, I know you’re a good trainer, but you have something I never will have as a trainer or a regular person.

You have a good heart."

Misty was speechless.

Did Ash really say that? I can’t believe he would say that! He has everything that I love about him and more! He

has to understand that!

"Ash, you have a honest and caring personality. Don’t say things like that! Listen, when I fight with

you, it doesn’t mean anything. Don’t you know I travel around with you because I’m your friend?

Ash, you’re the best friend I have, but I’ve been too stubborn to admit it."

Ash stared at Misty, not believing what he just heard.

" Misty, I’ve been stubborn too. Thanks, Misty."

Ash and Misty shook hands and smiled at each other.

Chapter 2

*************************************************************

It was three days away from her first battle, and Misty was as nervous as

ever.

***

8:00 PM

"Misty, why are you shivering?" Ash asked.

"B-because I-I’m cold." Misty stuttered.

"Misty, it’s 80 degrees outside."

"Well, you can’t blame me for being nervous."

"Hey guys, did you see the article about the Water League Champion?" Tracey asked. Ash and

Misty shook their heads.

"Well, it says here that the champ will be declared a Water PriMaster, which means the champ is

almost a Water Pokemon Master, but they need to catch all the Water Pokemon and defeat the Elite

Water Trainer of the Elite Four. I sure hope you win, Misty." Tracey said.

"We’ll be rooting for you all the way, Misty." Brock said.

"Yeah Misty, everyone is cheering for you. Oh yeah, your mom and dad are coming to see you the

day of your first battle." Ash said.

Misty had a dreamy look on her face.

"Thanks, guys. Wow, a Water PriMaster…that sounds cool." Misty said as she drifted off to sleep.

Then she started to dream…

"Misty, there’s something I have to tell you."

"What is it, Ash?"

"I can’t hold it in any longer. I love you, Misty."

"I love you too, Ash."

Suddenly, they kissed…

While Misty was dreaming, Ash gazed at her.

" She’s so beautiful when she’s sleeping."

**********************************************************

It was the day of Misty’s first Water League battle, and everyone in Pallet and Cerulean City was

cheering for her.

***

"Togepi, I’m so sorry I can’t use you in battle. I wish I could…but I could never let anyone hurt you."

Togepi frowned.

"Sorry Toge…MOM! DAD!"

Misty ran over to her parents.

Ash and his mom watched Misty.

"She’s a very smart and pretty girl. She’s perfect for you, Ash."

Ash blushed.

"All right, we’ve got our first water battle for you today, folks. Two pokemon only. And here

comes…Alysha Koperson!"

Alysha marched out very pompously. No one applauded.

"It’s Alysha’s second battle now, after she defeated Adrian Hoytman, as you know. Now, let’s give

a big round of applause for…Misty Waterflower, one of the Gym leaders of the Cerulean Gym!"

Misty and Togepi stood at the spot where Ash stood, right before his first battle.

Ash noticed that Misty was shaking. Ash put his hand on her shoulder.

"Mist…it’s gonna be okay. I’ll walk with you if you want me to."

Ash blushed deep red. Misty blushed and smiled, then nodded and put on a serious face.

"Ready to have our first League Battle, Togepi?"

Togepi nodded. Even Togepi was serious.

" And here she comes! Misty Waterflower, along with her coach Ash Ketchum, which was one of the

top16 in the Pokemon League. All right, people-----you can stop applauding now, OK, stop!"

The whole stadium was rocking with applause for Misty. She couldn’t help but smile at her family,

who were applauding the loudest.

Misty started warming up.

"Hey Misty, it’s probably none of my business, but why are you glaring at Alysha?" Ash asked. Misty

sighed.

"Alysha is my worst enemy. One day, Alysha came to my house. She started to run away with my

Seel, and I jumped onto her and tried to take it back. She let it go, and it got swept down into the

sewer! I jumped in, because I loved that Seel as much as you love Pikachu. When I found it, it was

badly hurt. My friends and I worked on Seel day and night. One day, I was holding Seel. Suddenly,

Alysha bumped into me. I was on the sea, so my baby Seel tumbled into the water." Misty said,

holding back tears.

"Misty, don’t worry. We’ll get back at her." Ash said.

"Ok, now let’s go to the trainer’s microphones for the battle!" Everyone cheered.

" This’ll be a piece of cake with—Starmie! I choose you!" Misty cried.

"I command you to go-Goldeen!" Alysha yelled. Misty rolled her eyes.

"Misty, use an underwater attack!"

"Right, Ash. Starmie, Counter Attack underwater!"

Starmie dove underwater. Goldeen couldn’t spot it anywhere. Suddenly, from out of nowhere,

Starmie attacked Goldeen. Goldeen was wiped out. Alysha was furious.

" So, Ms. Airhead, you thought you could beat me? Counting chickens before they hatch is a no-no,

but you’re too dumb to figure that out." Misty said coolly.

"Cut the cracks, runt. I’m going to beat you. And you better watch out for your other pokemon. I

might push them in the water too." Alysha shot back.

Misty tried not to look scared. Ash was steaming at Alysha.

"And Alysha’s only got 1 pokemon left! Can Misty beat her? Duh…I mean, we’ll find out!"

"All right, go, Seaking!" Alysha cried. "Horn Drill!"

"Starmie, Rainbow Gun Attack, now!" Misty yelled.

Starmie started spinning around and was pointing rainbow water guns everywhere. Suddenly,

Starmie’s jewel started to glow. Then, a huge blast tore right in Seaking’s direction.

"And Misty has beaten her! Alysha is out of the match! YEAH!"

Alysha dragged her feet to the exit.

Meanwhile, Ash, Misty, Pikachu and Togepi were jumping up and down.

"We did it! We did it, Ash!" Misty cheered.

Then they hugged.

"Oh, Ash, I love you."

"Misty, I love you."

Misty’s mom and Ash’s mom smiled at each other.

" I think I know what’s going on, don’t you?" Mrs. Ketchum said.

Misty pulled out of the hug and blushed a deep red. Same with Ash. They walked to the locker room

together(Not that locker room, sick people!).

"Oh Misty, I’m so proud of you! But those names you called her were not necessary…"

Mrs.Waterflower scolded.

"…but I know she deserved it!"

Misty smiled.

"Thanks, Mom. Hey Ash, what did you think of Starmie’s attack?" Misty asked.

"It was so cool! How did you teach Starmie to do that?" Ash wondered.

"It takes a lot of hard work, Ash. And plus, I didn’t do it alone!" Misty replied.

So Misty went on beating her other opponents. One by one, she defeated them. There was no

stopping her.

Chapter 3

******************************************

The day before the final battle…

5:45 pm

***

" Misty, what’s that thing you have around your neck?" Ash asked Misty, who was toying with the

locket around her neck.

" Oh, it’s just a locket."

"Well, what’s inside it?"

Misty blushed.

"Oh, nothing…just a picture. Nobody important, really…" Misty answered, hoping that he wouldn’t

suspect himself.

"Hmmm…are you sure? I think you’re hiding something, Mist." Ash said sadly, thinking about Rudy,

of Troveeta Island.

"Nope, I’m not hiding anything. I’m just worrying about my final battle." Misty replied, trying to

change the subject.

"Mist, you’re gonna do fine. I know you will." Ash shyly said.

"Thanks, Ash. Hey, do you want to go to the beach? That’s the best place for my pokemon—and for

me."

Ash was really excited. It was his favorite place, too.

"Sure, I’d love to go!"

**************************Later that

day…*******************************

*******

8:30 at night…

"Come on, Misty. Let’s take our pokemon out of their pokeballs."

Ash and Misty let all of their pokemon out. Misty lied down with Ash, and they were looking up at

the sun that was slowly setting.

" Oh, this is so beautiful…we should do this kind of thing all the time." Misty said.

Misty slid over on the towel to be close enough to touch Ash’s shoulder.

"Hey look at the stars!" Ash said, pointing at the shape the first stars made.

It was a heart. Ash blushed, thinking of Misty.

" Ash, I have a personal question to ask you. You know when we went to Shamuti Island and met

Melody? When she kissed you, I-I felt like—like I didn’t matter. When you laughed at me, I felt even

worse." Misty said, with a tear in her eye.

Ash felt terrible. Why did she think nobody cared about her?

Arrgh! I’m blushing again, but whoa. She cares when I meet other girls? Oh, you geek. Duh! I

was being mean.

"Misty…I’m really sorry. To tell the truth, I couldn’t care less about Melody. When she kissed me, I

was grossed out. I just put on that face so she’d leave me alone." Ash said.

Misty sighed happily.

"Oh, good."

But then Ash remembered something too.

"Misty, I…I can’t stop thinking about it. When Rudy invited you to dinner with him and you just

went, I-I felt like you couldn’t care less about me.You would rather be with Rudy, huh?" Ash said,

close to tears.

Misty was shocked.

Gosh, I should not have done that. Misty, you geek! You made Ash feel bad. Oh, I’m blushing

again, but I can’t believe he actually cared about that.

"Ash, how could you believe that? I never meant to hurt your feelings. I helped you win the match,

didn’t I? And also, on Shamuti Island, I saved your life. You fell off Lugia, and I swam out to the

middle of the ocean to save you." Misty said.

Ash was shocked. He hadn’t known that Misty saved his life.

Misty saved my life? Darn Tracey! Why didn’t he tell me? I haven’t done anything special for

Misty.

Ash looked at Misty and knew what he had to do.

Misty laid her head on Ash’s shoulder.

"Misty…I have something to tell you. Misty, I----Misty?"

Misty had fallen asleep in his arms.

"Oh, let’s sleep here for the night. Her match isn’t until 6:00 tomorrow night anyway." Ash

thought.

"Good night, Misty." Ash said.

"I love you."

Chapter 4

***************************************************************

The next day…

*****

7:30 am.

"(Yawn) Ash, are you up ye----?" Misty stopped talking. Ash was asleep, holding her in his arms.

Misty blushed fiery red.

"I don’t want to ruin the moment, but unfortunately, I have to do some last minute training."

Misty thought.

"Ash, wake-"

" Misty…" Ash muttered in his sleep. Misty changed her mind.

Misty fell asleep again. This time Ash woke up.

"Misty, even in my dreams I can’t stop thinking about you."

"I love you." He whispered softly.

Misty stirred.

"Hi, Ash. Did you sleep good?" Misty asked.

"I slept great! How about you…"Ash couldn’t speak, seeing her in his arms. He blushed as red as a

strawberry.

"Should we go back?" Misty said.

"When we put our pokemon back in their pokeballs."

**************************

Later…

Misty was on the Internet, looking for updates of new water pokemon.

"Hey Ash, come look at this! There’s a new pokemon called a Totodile! Cool, huh?"

"Yeah, I’d love to catch one of those!" Ash exclaimed.

"Hey, shouldn’t somebody be on their way to Indigo Stadium?" Brock teased.

"Give her a break, Brock." Ash said. Misty blushed.

"But we should go. Come on, guys." Ash walked by her side.

Oh, Ash is being so nice to me. But he would never love me.

Chapter 5

Misty sighed as they went through the big blue doors to the stadium. No one was there but Ash and

Misty. (Brock and Tracey had gone off to eat some ice cream. It’s not what you think, people!)

"Misty went up to the center of the arena. She looked around.

"I can’t believe I’m finally here." Misty said happily.

"Well, you ready for it?" Ash asked.

"I hope so." Misty had a sad look on her face.

"What’s the matter, Mist?" Ash asked, concerned.

"If I lose, nobody will have faith in me anymore. I’ve tried so hard to stay concentrated on water

pokemon, but there’s this one thing. I can’t take my mind off it. And every day, it just seems so far

away." Misty said, tears halfway down her face.

Ash went up to her, and hugged her. He just couldn’t take it.

I-I don’t why she would think that. I love her more than anything in the whole world. I just

wish I could tell her.

Ash just held her hands.

"Misty, I lo—I’m sorry, Misty." Ash replied, wanting to punch himself in the stomach.

" You go get ready. I’m still here, Misty." Misty’s heart sang.

***********************************

"Hey Misty!" Misty turned around. She couldn’t believe who it was.

"Ashley! Rachel! OHMYGOSH!" She charged towards her best friends.

"We missed you soooo much, Misty." Ashley said.

"Hey Mist," Rachel asked. "Who’s the guy? Is he your boyfriend?" Rachel giggled.

"No! He…umm…he’s a friend I was traveling with." Misty said nervously, turning beet red.

Ashley had a sly grin. So did Rachel. They knew Misty’s secret, but they let her play her little game.

" Hey Misty!" Ash said, as he came over to her. Rachel was holding something behind her back.

"Misty," Ashley said, "we’ve got a surprise for you."

Rachel held up a Seel. Misty was overwhelmed.

She petted the mark on its forehead.

"The waterdrop that I put on. Is it really…?" Misty asked.

"It’s Drippy alright." Rachel said.

Misty put Togepi in Ash’s arms and held up her Seel.

"Oh, Drippy, remember me? Misty?" Misty asked.

The Seel finally remembered her, and gave her a big hug.

"Misty, I’m really happy for you!" Ash grinned. Misty smiled at Ash, then took out a Pokeball.

"Drippy, return!" The Seel went into the pokeball.

"Now I’m ready." Misty said.

**********

"It is 15 minutes to the start of the match! Misty Waterflower has shown us great skill in her training,

and I’m sure the audience is very impressed. Now, let’s go to Ash Ketchum, Misty’s coach!"

Reporters surrounded Ash. One reporter started to ask him some questions.

"Ash, how do you look at the battles that Misty has won? Please give us your opinion."

"I think Misty’s done an excellent job. I am really proud of her, and she’s my best friend." The

reporters smiled at this.

" Have you had any relationships with the Pokemon trainer, Mr. Ketchum?" Ash turned red.

You idiots!

In the locker room…

Misty sighed as she put on a real trainers outfit. She pulled up her tank top, which had her name on it

in blue letters. Her short black skirt looked pretty on her, and she tied her Size 7 ½ blue striped

Adidas shoes. She made sure not to take the locket off. Her honey colored hair went down to her

shoulders. She put on her angry face and went out on the field.

**************************

She stepped onto the platform and faced Ash. His soft brown eyes, his black, black hair, his

hypnotizing smile, his tanned skin, his strong shoulders, his muscular arms and legs, and she looked

back at his face, and unknown to her he was thinking the same about her. Her beautiful blue eyes, her

glowing hair, her heart-shaped mouth, her soft hair, her slender arms, her thin stomach, her

forever-growing legs, and he stared her in the face. They stayed like that for a while, until Misty said:

" Ash, I want to tell you something. I haven’t been following you for the bike. I travel with you

because I—I’ll tell you after the match." Ash blushed and smiled at her, and Misty got tongue-tied.

Chapter 6

"And it’s Misty Waterflower vs. Michelle Gutman! Both trainers are to have six pokemon only. We

have seen great skills from both trainers. Let’s go to the microphones!" The announcer said.

"Horsea, go!" Misty shouted.

"Seaking, go!" Michelle yelled.

"Horsea, counter attack, NOW!" Misty yelled.

Horsea bashed into Seaking. Seaking swam around in circles, knocked silly.

"Oh, man! Seaking, return!"

Misty smiled. She was totally confident.

"And it’s halftime! Misty with 5 pokemon and Michelle with 2! I must say, Misty is doing really well!"

The announcer said.

In the locker room…

"Misty, just keep it up and you’ll win! I-I’m real proud of you, Misty." Ash said, blushing like an

apple.

"Wow, thanks Ash! You’ve been acting like my best friend lately. Why?" Misty said, serious.

"I’m your best friend and you are mine. You’ve been really nice. Thanks, Mist." Ash said.

Misty stared at him, with a totally in love look on her face.

"Now, back to the battle!" The announcer said.

"Magikarp, go!" Michelle yelled.

"Goldeen, go!" Misty yelled.

"Magikarp, Splash Attack!" Michelle cried.

Magikarp sent a huge splash towards Goldeen, who dodged it.

"Big deal. Splash splash. Goldeen, Horn Attack! Now!" Misty cried.

Goldeen hit Magikarp, who went flying.

"Magikarp, return!" Michelle said.

"Yes! Ash, one more to go!" Misty high-fived Ash.

"Now we’re warming up! Gyarados, go!

Misty looked at the huge pokemon and stood in awe. This would be tough to beat!

"Goldeen, take a rest! Poliwag, go!" Misty yelled.

"Misty, don’t worry. Just concentrate!" Ash said.

"Right. Poliwag, Counter Kick! Now!" Misty said to her pokemon.

"Poliwag kicked Gyarados in the stomach. It was hurt pretty badly.

"Aaaah! Gyarados, Hyper Beam!" Michelle said, totally nervous.

"Oh no! Poliwag, dodge it!" Misty screamed.

Poliwag got a burn mark, but it was fine.

"Wait, what’s this? Oh! It looks like Gyarados is weakening from this powerful attack! If it faints,

Misty shall become a Water PriMaster! It’s so exciting!"

Misty and Ash stood together on the platform, waiting to see what would happen.

Chapter 7(the exciting one)

"Gyarados, no!" It finally collapsed.

"SHE’S DONE IT! MISTY WATERFLOWER HAS BECOME A WATER PRIMASTER!" The

announcer screamed into his microphone.

Tears were coming down Misty’s face. Ash faced her. They hugged, crying with happiness.

"You little brat!" Michelle yelled. Gyarados slowly woke up.

"Gyarados, aim a Dragon Rage attack right at the platform. Now!" Michelle screamed.

Misty looked and saw the attack heading right for Ash!

"Ash, move!" Misty pushed Ash out of the way.

There was a huge explosion. Ash opened his eyes and looked down.

"MISTY!" Ash saw Misty sprawled on the ground.

Ash raced down the platform and laid Misty’s head on his lap.

"Misty (sniff) wake up! Open your eyes, Misty, please!" Ash cried.

"My baby!" Mrs. Waterflower yelled.

Ash opened Misty’s locket. His eyes welled up with tears as he looked inside.

There was a picture of him! Shaped like a heart!

He could feel Misty breathing. He leaned over her face, inches away from her lips.

Suddenly, Misty lifted her head and clashed lips with Ash. She put her arms around his neck, thinking

it was a dream.

He caressed her hair, and they both opened their eyes.

"a-a-Ash! I swear, I-I didn’t know, I-I-I…"Misty said, looking into his eyes.

"I love you, Ash. I’ve kept it a secret for so long." Misty said, waiting for his reply.

"I’ve loved you since the day I met you, Misty. Um (blushing), can I kiss you?" Ash shyly asked.

Misty blushed.

"Sure. I---mmmfff…" Misty stopped, feeling Ash’s arms around her.

"Ummmm… the new PriMaster is kissing Ash Ketchum! Isn’t that cute?" The announcer said,

laughing.

Ash helped Misty up onto the first place platform, and jumped up himself.

"I hereby present the official Water League Trophy and Medal to you, Misty Waterflower." The

president of the Pokemon League put the medal around Misty’s neck. She held up the trophy to

show the crowd. The applause was rocking the stadium.

"Misty," Ash said, "I want to give you something. Can you wear it, please?" Ash said looking into her

eyes.

"Oh, Ash, it’s a ring! But we’re too young to get married." Misty said, her face red.

"This is a ring to show my love for you Misty." Ash whispered, slipping his arms around her.

"I love you, Misty."

Ash kissed her. The crowd applauded.

Later…

"Well, pumpkin, you did great. I’m proud of you, Princess." Mr. Waterflower said.

"Thanks, dad. Hey mom, didn’t you think I was cool out there?" Misty said.

"Be careful out there, missy. I almost had a heart attack out there. But I am so proud of you." Mrs.

Waterflower said.

Misty and her mom hugged.

"You did so great, Misty. No wonder Ash kissed you." Mrs. Ketchum said. Misty’s face turned

sunburn red.

"Hey Misty, let’s get ready for the Closing Ceremony. Come on!" Ash said.

"Hey Ashley, Rachel, come on up! Help me pick out something nice to wear!" Misty yelled to her

friends.

"Brock, Tracey! Come on! I need your help." Ash yelled to his friends.

In the guest room…

"I knew you had a thing for him! I just knew it!" Rachel laughed, grinning.

"Well, yeah. So, what do you think? Will he like it? I don’t look fat, do I?" Misty asked. Ashley

smiled.

"Girl, you are gonna be so pretty tonight that Ash is gonna fall over." They all laughed.

Meanwhile, in Ash’s room…

" So, you finally got the nerve to tell her. Make sure you kiss her tonight." Brock said, smiling.

" Don’t worry, I will. Are you absolutely sure I look all right?"

"Ash, you look great. She’ll be yours all night." Tracey said.

5 minutes later…

"Misty, come on! I’m counting to three!" Ash yelled. "One, two, thr…Ohhh."

Ash stopped instantly. He blinked his eyes. The sight before him dazzled him.

Misty was dressed in a sky blue strapless dress. The skirt had a slit, revealing her legs. Her face had

blue glitter all over it, and her eyes had blue eye shadow on them. Her hair was in a bun, except for

the strands that fell down her face. Her lips had a sort of a white glow to them.

"M-Misty…" Ash stuttered, lovestruck. "Ohh…"

Misty looked at Ash. He looked twice as handsome in a tuxedo. He gave her a big smile, and it was

her turn to be lovestruck.

"Ash…" Misty said dreamily, "You look really cute tonight…"

Ashley, Rachel, Brock & Tracey gave each other a high five.

"It worked, you guys!" Rachel whispered.

"And Brock, you look pretty cute too." Brock turned hot pink.

"Duh…you look great too, Rachel." Brock fawned.

"Well Tracey, wanna come with me?" Ashley asked, blushing. Tracey had a dazed look on his face.

"Sure…"

At the stadium…

Everyone was there. No seat was empty.

"And we are about to start the closing ceremony of this year’s Water League! This tournament has

been exciting, touching, and the best one yet! It looks like it’s a full 50,000 person house tonight!"

The announcer said to everyone.

"Wow! I can’t believe it! Look Ash! They made the flame blue!" Misty exclaimed with delight.

" And it’s for you, Misty." Ash said, gazing at her.

"And we will turn our microphone over to this year’s New Water PriMaster, Misty Waterflower!"

The announcer yelled with excitement.

"I just have to say a couple things. First of all, I’d like to thank my family and friends for their

encouragement. And second, I’d like to thank my boyfriend, Ash Ketchum. He has stuck by me

when I’m down, and I just want to say four words. I love you, Ash." Misty gave him a big hug.

Suddenly, the platform Misty and Ash were standing on rose above the crowd. The fireworks

lit up the sky, and Misty and Ash looked at each other.

"Oh, Misty. You look so beautiful tonight. And wow! You’re wearing the ring!" Ash said, gazing at

her.

"Oh, Ash. How could I forget the ring? I-…" Misty stopped. Ash’s face was far too close to be left

alone.

" I love you forever, Ash." Ash kissed her.

Little did they know that ten years later, they would be married.
