1. Unfortunate Beginnings

My desiring heart
Whispers your name
I'm being torn apart
I'll never be the same
My life has crumbled
And I have stumbled
Into an undenying love for you
You have so many reasons
We shouldn't be one
And it kills me
To know that we can never love
The way we did before

Haley walked down the hallway, her high school. She knew this place was her life, but one thing pained her. His name was Casey, and his stare killed her heart. She couldn't stand to be around him, his eyes on her, searching her for something. Even though they had been in love, he turned away from her. Complete isolation. She was single, and back on the market.

High school was like an ocean. Guys always looking for girls, girls always looking for guys. But not Casey. He couldn't look at another girl the same, not like Haley. But he couldn't see her anymore. He had a terrible secret. Something he couldn't even tell her. Eventually, he just didn't give Haley the same attention. She noticed, and he couldn't put her through the pain. He couldn't love her, it could end up hurting her.

Lunchtime always came the same way. Haley packed away her things from Study Hall, dropped them off at her locker, and went into the lunchroom. She sat with her cheerleading friends, as she was one herself, but she always stared at Casey's table. What made him change like this? Did she push him away? Maybe she wasn't pretty enough. It always came back to that. She gorged down a bunch of food, and rushed into the bathroom. Forcefully, she shoved her finger down her throat, and threw up. She had been doing this for a month, and she still wasn't used to it. But to get him back, she would do anything. She needed him. Tears found a path down her pale skin. She was suddenly very, very cold. She washed up, stuck a Tic-Tac in her mouth, and walked to her locker to get her purple quarter length shirt to go over her pink tank top. She slid the silky shirt over her bare skin, just now noticing it matched her knee length skirt. She grabbed her binder and walked to her next class. Casey was already there.

Oh boy. When Casey saw Haley walk in, he gulped down regret for choosing German as his foreign language. He noticed she sat as far away from him as possible. He couldn't stand this, how she ignored him. He didn't blame her though. If only he could tell her why he couldn't be with her, it would make things so much easier, and less painful. He noticed her usually let down long, ebony hair was roughly tied back in a ponytail, and she was shivering. He shook off the guilt and turned to the teacher. Maybe he should talk to her, maybe she might somehow understand.

Haley gazed tiredly at him. His short, spiked, and gelled hair was arranged in an adorable style. It was just a little darker that hers. His eyes were a bright, watery blue. She snapped back to reality. She couldn't think about this now. However, she couldn't help it. Casey could be so adorable in so many ways.
