He died on 28 Apr 1966 in Iron Springs Cemetery. Frank & Lida did not have
any children. Frank Lebar came from Manitoulin Island in 1905. During the trip
he looked after the horses and cattle in the stock cars of the other settlers
coming at the same time. He homesteaded the S.E. 19-11-20-4. At this time the
prairie landscape was unobstructed by trees or fences. He later worked at Pincher
Creek where he met Lida Pierson, a native of Magrath. She was the second baby
born in Magrath.
Frank Lebar and Lida Pierson were married in the Iron Springs parsonage by Rev.
C. R. Corcoran and they took up residence on the farm, the N.E. 8-11-20-4. The
Lebar home became the half-way house for C.S. Noble's hired men when they were
travelling between Nobleford and the Cameron Ranch which was the site of the
Noble Foundation. The men often stayed overnight. They would have from six to
ten horse teams with wagons, machinery, cook cars, supplies, and seed grain.
There would be anywhere from two to six teams in the string.
Mr. Lebar, along with other farmers, hauled grain to Coaldale, Nobleford, or
Diamond City for a number of years, using four or six horse teams for the job.
In 1929 he got first prize for his sugar beets, a sum of one hundred dollars.
He had sixty acres of land seeded to beets that year. Later the Lebars lived
on the S.W. 17-11-20-4 which was where they lived before retiring to Lethbridge.
Among the recollections of Mrs. Lebar are the changes in farming techniques,
along with the landscape changes brought about by irrigation. Also vivid in her
mind is the arrival of the first train. She remembers, too, the terrible dust
storms and black clouds that would roll across the sky when these storms occurred.
