So I received a proper analysis of my dream from the lovely Miss Caroline, which was quite a surprise. She rocks. So, without further ado, here is her take on my creepy, creepy dream:

It is very obvious that your dream presents a clear yearning from the past. In fact, every single element of your brain's subconscious nocturnal machinations are strangely linked to a period in our common history: level one.

That's right. Chelsea: level one. Rob Thomas, Matchbox 20: very level one. Larry and Andrew: more level one than I can express. And so on.

Now, of course, like every good dream analyst, I am forced to present you with at least two possible interpretations of this material. (Otherwise, some would call me narrow-minded and unlearned.)

1. The first of these possibilities is that deep, deep down, you're longing for when things were simpler. when you were first friends with chelsea: the casual acquaintance, having lots of fun, less responsibilities, less papers. Also, the good old days, when Andrew used to date people with normal names, and Larry was still not de facto married to Brendan. And of course, the fact that Rob Thomas expresses his undying love for you (not quite in so many words) just points to the fact that you're working out the highly one-sided relationship that you have with him all throughout the second half of level one when that great song came out. (I don't recall the name of that song at the moment, but if you give me a couple decades, it might be possible.)

So: here's what to ask yourself if this is the case - are you in fact unhappy with your current situation to such an extent that you would dream about the good old days of Rob Thomas and Larry and Andrew? What is troubling you, my child?

2. It is possible that you are stuck in the past. Do you find that history repeats itself? is Matchbox 20 going to get big again? Will Larry and Andrew start dating again? History has already repeated itself in the case of your being friends with Chelsea, right? Right? And hey, if that's the case, then it's not all bad. There could be worse things than Larry and Andrew going out again.

3. The third possible explanation for this dream is that it is some sort of inexpressible desire in the present tense. You long to be in Toronto, riding the subway. You want to see Chelsea. You want Larry and Andrew to talk to each other again. You want them both to be witty at the same time. You really, really want Matchbox 20 to get big again.

4. This, I think is the most likely explanation: it is obviously a premonition. Like when Phoebe touches somebody and gets these menopausal hot-flashes that are really visions of the future. Yep, that's you, my darling. You and Chelsea will someday ride the subway together. (The subway being a metaphor for life, of course) Larry and Andrew will someday talk to each other, but, as always they will be at odds. Perhaps each of them will try to take over the world in his or her own way, then find out that the other party is trying to do the same. Then they will disagree. And argue some more. and the best part of this dream: Matchbox 20 will rise from the grave and take over pop-dom once again. Muhahahhaa.

Oh yeah, and you'll hook up with Rob Thomas.

Hehe. Thanks, Carrot. I feel much better now that I understand the dream. But I swear to God, if Rb Thomas starts hitting on me in a bus this week, I'm just going to freak out and beat him to death with my handbag. And then I'll wish him a happy Christmas.
