Today&Future Forecast Summary10:54 PM: Temp 43F, DP 34F, RH 70%, 1017.6 mb, calm, vis 10 mi, 0% clds, none Lots of cirrus clouds filled the sky today as the high pressure ridge departed off the East Coast. The approaching storm in the Lower Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes will spread more clouds into our area tommorrow and eventually rain showers. These showers will be scattered since the low will pass well to our Northwest. While we're getting increasing clouds, locations in In, Il, and Lower Mi will get HAMMERED with a significant snowstorm. The snow there, will intensify overnight tonight and become heavy at times through the day tommorrow and early tommorrow night. Total accumulations could reach 8 to as much as 16 inches in isolated locales. In association with gusty winds, it's going to be a winter wonderland out that way. Why the hell can't that happen here. Our hopes for a snowstorm later in the week before the cold air from Wednesday and Thursday departs looks less likely with each new model run. the current forecast has the possibility of snow and rain showers for Friday night into Saturday, however notice the "showers" which say that the precip won't come down hard. Originally, some meteorologists were speculating at a "the storm of the season" blah blah blah. Heard that one too many times this season. I have to admit with all the failures in forecasting this season, it's made me more doubtful at any forecasts over 2 to 3 days. Back in November, if I saw a storm in the 4-7 day that looked promising I'd jump all over it and be glued to the model runs until it was finally dismissed "THE DAY BEFORE" it was forecasted...bastards. Lately, I've taken a more pessimistic approach and not believed any forecast until a couple days prior to the event. This will likely change once we get some event that was predicted several days in advance. One thing I'd like to accomplish during and after getting my degrees in weather, is to help develop NEW models that can increase the accuracy of forecasts. Right now, there are several models I've never looked at because they are still highly experimental and only available with a paid subscription. Once I'm off to college I'll get a chance to see these models and learn more about how they are developed and programmed. Maybe taking up some C++ courses would do me some good, that and read a book or 2 on HTML 2, 3, and the new one 4. Screw Java Script, I'll leave that one up to the experts. ok...enough for now...8^)...Ev |
