OPINION02/27/2003It appears that the Iraq War could only be a few days away. Up until now I really didn't know how I felt about this war. On a daily basis I read news articles from American, British, and Arab newspapers and public opinion. It's like a seesaw back and forth when I hear all of the arguments for and against this war. I think for the most part I though a war was the best way to deal wiht Saddam. But, I finally have come to a SOLID decision today on my what my opinion is. Will it make a difference? Will anyone even read this? I could give 2 shits. It is good to know inside what I feel about this issue. And the conclusion is....WAR IS BULLSHIT.About 10 minutes ago instead of looking over the usual articles and opinion I instead started looking at pictures of world events. In most of these pictures there were images of protesters intensively against the war, nothing new there. I've seen that regularly on the news and over the net. One picture stood out among all the rest however. This was the picture of Pope John Paul II sitting in a chair with an unmistakable glint of fear and sorrow in his eyes. Honestly, I thought the pope was knocking on heaven's door and didn't have much left upstairs. But this picture CLEARLY shows the eyes of a wiske and concerned man. I think his eyes hit down deep inside just how POINTLESS war is. In an age of high society and great civilization we are about to embark on a war more intense than any other in history. Thousands, possibly millions will die directly and indirectly from the US (UN?) attack. Of course we will win, but the pain and anger created from this war will only create a spiral of violence similar to what is occuring in Israel/Palestine right now. This war is over Politics, money, and misconstrued fear. Yes Saddam probably has a seat in hell waiting for him, but if we attack Iraq there's gonna be an even bigger throne/palace waiting for us in Hell. Diplomacy and peace are the answer. We need to focus our efforts towards peace without threatening war and instead finding the common bonds of humananity. If we don't, humanity will be lost. Evan Lowery |
