Today&Future Forecast SummaryCurrently @2:35 AM 35F, DP 30F, 82%, 1021.6mb, calm, 75% str, 2500ft clng, vis 10mi, none. WOW, what a difference a day or two can make. ALL of the forecasts earlier yesterday were calling for this deveoping low pressure over Arkansas to move quickly eastward off the mid-atlantic coast without any interaction with the jetstream or any significant influx of moisture from the gulf or Atlantic. Nonetheless, later yesterday and overnight last night, everything quickly started to change. The ETA started off the bunch showing a much stronger storm system and then the other models followed. Since this storm's introduction last night, the forecast has remained relatively the same. The only change has been the fluxuation of the rain/snow line over the norhern counties of PA and southern NY. As it stands now the precip will start during the early and mid afternoon tommorrow. In NEPA this will fall primarily as rain at the onset. There may be some snow and sleet mixed in from time to time, however it will be so wet that the snow may not be noticeable. That's tthe forecast for the valleys. If you are living up 1 or 2000 feet, it's a completely different story. The temperatures will hover close to 32F through most of the day and the precip will fall as snow. The snow won't stick much at first because of our prolonged warmth over the past month. However, once night falls it will start sticking fast. Anywhere from 3-6 inches could fall in the higher elevations. As for the valleys, the snow will mix in overnight and become all snow around midnight. By that point much of the storm has already moved through the area and only 1-3 slushy inches could accumulate in the grassy areas. Nonetheless it will be a great site for Sunday breakfast and mass. Finally, people can start to get into the holiday spirit. Snow showers will linger for a while Sunday AM with a cool day on tap. Actually temps will be normal on Sunday with highs aorund 40F. We have been 20-30F ABOVE normal for almost a solid month! Things had better change. Hopefully this small system can start the process of cahnge towards colder more seasonable temperatures for the Northeast. This may not be enough however. There's plenty of cold air to tap into up north, but we need a solid negative tilted storm to form on the jetstream and ride up the coast to REALLY usher in some colder air. I'm still going for mid to late next week as when the pattern shifts for the "better" in my opinion. Those poor ski slopes are suffering hardcore this year. I hope they can stay in business from all the money they've lost. Keep checking back for more winter forecasts!...8^)...Ev |
