Today&Future Forecast SummaryCurrently @1:36 AM 33F, DP 32F, 96%, 1012.7mb, calm, 100% nmbstr, 3600ft clng, vis 4mi, lgt mix. Today really was an awesome weather day. In any other winter season this snow would be pathetic, but this year is absolutely an exception. I'm pretty certain November went down in the record books as the warmest month on record here in NEPA as with most locales on the East coast. On top of that, a good majority of the mid-atlantic, upper piedmont, and northeast are in a serious drought as I mentioned in a previous forecast summary. This storm, although it only dumped 2-4 inches across the area, may have had enough influence on the Jet Stream and high pressure persistant block in the Atlantic, to shift the weather pattern and bring closer to normal temps to the region. This isn't going to happen right away. The upcoming week will be cooler than the 60s and low 70s we had last week with highs hanging in the 40s. This is still above normal. The real cold air will be reserved too the middle or latter parts of Dec 17th-21st. How could I know this considering it's still 10 days away or more? It just has to happen. The models have stuck too a colder scenario and IT JUST HAS TO HAPPEN. When this happens hopefully a descent-sized storm will develop and dump snow on us for a white Christmas. The next chance of rain or snow won't come until Wed night or Thursday. I'm not too optimistic for snow since the low is expected to track far to our northwest. Unless something redevelops along the Mid-Atlantic, most likely we'll have a rain event. Temps will stay in the 40s all week. It's really nice too look outside and see some of the white stuff on the ground. I'm sure tommorrow morning will look awesome in NEPA. It's always a beautiful site too see the mountains surrounding Scranton covered with a solid pack of snow. Those first few hours in the morning when the sun starts to come up will look amazing. Everything will be so bright from the frest snow. That snow, I think, is the main reason why tommorrow's highs will remain in the mid-upper 30s. That coupled with a northwest flow of cool air...ok have a great day everyone....check back again!...8^)...Ev |
