SCMR Flowers Snowflake

This pattern uses 2 shuttles wound CTM and 54 beads (optional, replace beads with picots if desired).
Completed size 2.5" point to point when worked in size 20 Manuela thread with Mill Hill seed beads.
For instructions on how to do the self-closing mock ring (or SCMR), see the Shuttle Brothers web page.

When winding your shuttles, wind one shuttle very full with 48 beads on it, this will be shuttle two. Shuttle 1 will have the remaining six beads on it and only requires a small amount of thread, a yard is plenty. Snowflake is worked in one round, starting in the center. The shuttle 2 rings are thrown off of the SCMR.

Sh. 1: R 3-3 b 3-3 RW
Ch 3 b* 3 b 3-3
SCMR: make loop, then ch 3
Sh 2: R 3+3 b 3-3 Sh 1: ch 3
repeat from † 4 more times for a total of 5 rings, close SCMR. (first sh 2 ring joins to previous chain, all other rings join to rings just made)
Ch 3+3 b 3 b* 3 RW (join is to last sh 2 ring)
‡ R 3+3 b 3-3 RW
Ch 3+*3 b 3-3 (join to last chain made)
SCMR as before
Ch 3+3 b 3 b*3 RW
Repeat from ‡ 4 more times for a total of six inner rings and six points, joining final inner ring to first inner ring and final chain to first chain. Cut and tie to base of first ring, finish ends as desired.

* The markings b* and +* indicate a picot that has a bead on it and is used for joining. These picots need to be longer than an ordinary beaded picot to allow thread for the join. When making the join, push the bead away from the center of the snowflake so that the bead will sit on the outside of the join. If after reading this description and examining the photo you are confused, simply omit these six beads and perform a regular join instead, or e-mail me and I'll try to explain better!
