Baka: heyo?
NidoKing: Hi. (Is this about that survey from eons ago?)
Baka: How ya doing? (umm...kinda)
NidoKing: Not too bad...
Baka: Not too bad? oro?
NidoKing: Not too bad. Routine.
Baka: ah, i see. yeah, I'm flattered you'd remember me!
NidoKing: I remembered the name. Don't quite recall what the survey was supposed to be about.
Baka: okay, I take my earlier comment back! j/k, heh heh. Don't remember my survey?
NidoKing: Not offhand... something about why I write fanfiction? I probably still have the E-mail around somewhere...
Baka: Oh well, if you're too busy...
NidoKing: Nah, I've got a bit of time. Depends on how much time you need.
Baka: well, that depends on how the questioning goes, that is...
NidoKing: OK. I have about half an hour or so. Think that would be enough?
Baka: If not, I could always either resume later...or send the remainder thru e-mail...that work?
NidoKing: Sure. That works fine.
Baka: :) Great. I've divided up the questions into three categories...
NidoKing: OK.
Baka: Remember that you have the right to decline answering any question, ok?
NidoKing: OK. Let's go.
Baka: alright!

Baka: First off, what can you tell me about yourself?
NidoKing: I'm a 22-year old college student about to graduate with a CS/MA double major and a minor inJapanese, I'm into video games (particularly RPGs), anime, and sci-fi/fantasy.
Baka: Kool.

Baka: What's the stupidest thing you've ever done?
NidoKing: Can't really say... although I started a near-flame war on FFML over a few harsh comments on a chapter I wrote and probably destroyed my reputation.
Baka: FFML?
NidoKing: Fanfiction Mailing List.
Baka: Oh...care to comment a little further on this chapter, or would you not feel comfortable?
NidoKing: It was a debate about the level of description in a scene where some new students joined the Sailor Scouts' classes. I ended up rewriting it in the end, but only after a long line of public correspondence.
Baka: oh...so it became too graphic for the public?
NidoKing: No... not descriptive enough. It was too dry, and my argument was basically out of laziness. I didn't want to have to change what I'd written.
Baka: Ah...let's move on...

Baka: What would you say is your greatest personal triumph?
NidoKing: It's hard to say because I have an incredible inferiority complex. Nothing I do is ever good enough to be satisfied with. But... A General Time Paradox has generated quite a following already, so if I can keep everyone interested until the end, that will be an accomplishment.
Baka: "A General TIme Paradox"?
NidoKing: It's a mega-crossover, set mostly in the Sailor Moon universe but featuring characters from many other series.
Baka: oh?
Baka: Would you, could you supply a link to where this could be found?
NidoKing: All of my stories can be reached from my webpage at www.rose-hulman.edu/~katinamp Tack /Paradox.html onto the end of that to go directly to the story.

Baka: What are a few of your favorite things (food, movies, music, etc.) ?
NidoKing: I like just about anything that goes well with sour cream, any movie/TV show that's funny and makes you think (either/or, but both is preferable), and just about any anime theme.

Baka: Do you idolize anyone?
NidoKing: I try not to, because of my inferiority complex. But I do try to model my writing after a few of my favorite authors, if the tone is right.
Baka: any inclination to name those?
NidoKing: Terry Pratchett for comedy, Stephen King for serious stuff.

Baka: What was your first encounter with SMJ like?
NidoKing: There was a marathon showing before a break last year, and I was only able to stay for the first half. I liked it so much that I convinced my family to buy it so I could watch the rest. I planned my single SMJ fanfic starting from about the time Cherry first showed up, and watched the entire series with my story in mind.

Baka: Are there any characters you would say stand out in your opinion from the rest? How so?
NidoKing: Not as such... everyone's just as important to the story. I can't think of anyone offhand who stood out more than anyone else.
Baka: fair enough ;)

Baka: How many times have you seen the SM series'?
NidoKing: The first half that one time, and then the whole thing two more times through. I also re-watched the Leopard episodes to review a few things for the story.

Baka: Given the chance, what would you have made different in the original SMJ story?
NidoKing: I would have removed the last scene, when the Marionettes return. I think the ending was more meaningful when Otaru had totally lost them forever.
Baka: yeah, I agree

Baka: What sort of SMJ Merchandise do you own, if any?
NidoKing: The videos of the J series and the first and last J again tapes. Nothing else.
Baka: would there be anything else you wouldn't mind owning?
NidoKing: The middle J again video, definitely... and maybe a complete set of Saber Marionette plushies. Just to complement my Pokemon collection.
Baka: Oh? How extensive is your pokemon collection?
NidoKing: I've got a talking Pikachu and Mew, and a big Pikachu and Meowth that don't talk. And a Ryo-Ohki.
Baka: oh, cute.

Baka: What sort of things do you like to do to get in the mood for writing?
NidoKing: Sit at my computer, usually. Hopefully I'll have an idea, and then I just put words into a file for a while.

Baka: Do you read fanfic yourself? If so, are there any specific stories out there you would highly recommend to others?
NidoKing: Hmmm... I read some, when I have the time. I usually try to write, rather than read. But most of the stories on Blood Blade's page are pretty good. (I don't remember the URL offhand, and I haven't been there in a while.)

Baka: Have you ever written a fic you thought little of, only to have readers praise it?
NidoKing: A few times. I thought Pokenet would flop, but people seemed to enjoy it, and even I know get a kick out of reading it every now and then. And I thought the mega-crossover nature of A General Time Paradox would make it a guaranteed failure, but that's going well also.
Baka: Do you have any idea why that would be?
NidoKing: It's a very compelling story that breaks most of the traditions of bad crossovers, I suppose.
Baka: :)

Baka: Are there any plans for your future fanfiction writing?
NidoKing: I plan to finish each of the stories that I've started eventually, and one or two more that I've yet to start. Otherwise, I'd like to turn my attention to my own anime-style stories after that.

Baka: What would you say inspires your fanfic writing (other than the obvious answer of the original works) ?
NidoKing: That's pretty much it. Usually, I see a series and have some gripe about it - something I want to see that isn't in the story. So I write it.
Baka: As most ff starts :)

Baka: Are you more comfortable writing serious or humorous stories?
NidoKing: Serious, although I like the humorous ones better. I'm just not as good at comedy.

Baka: How long in estimate does/would it take you to write a full fanfic?
NidoKing: Depends. Sometimes I do them in an hour, but it usually takes months.

Baka: What would you say are the most important traits a writer should have?
NidoKing: A good grasp of the language, and hopefully a good sense of plot and characterization.

Baka: What is your stance on Yaoi/Yuri (guy+guy and girl+girl relationship) fics?
NidoKing: I don't read them. Although I did see a funny one once...
Baka: beyond that, what is your take?
NidoKing: If they're well done, they're okay. I'm not really against them. I just don't read them.

Baka: well, cool. That about wraps things up. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
NidoKing: Not really. Thanks for taking the time to survey me. I'm always available to just chat.
Baka: No problem. I'll take you up on that, I'm sure!

Baka: Oh, and after asking all this of you...it's only fair:
Do you have any questions to ask me?

NidoKing: Not offhand... you plan to read some of my stories, right?
Baka: I have read into what you had done with "the TIcking Saber" a while back...was disappointed you hadn't gone further with it!
NidoKing: Thanks. But I still need to improve it. I need to totally rewrite that one.
Baka: I'll be waiting on that one!
NidoKing: I hope it's not too long a wait.
Baka: Thanks again for your time!
NidoKing: You're welcome.
