Once Joyce had shut the door she exploded,

"How could that man!"

"Mum calm down. It's not like I've slept with him or anything."

"I should hope not."

"Dont be silly, Mum. I'm an adult."

"While you're under my roof you do as I say. It's just a teenage crush and you'll get over it. Now go upstairs I'll call you for supper."

Buffy walked to her room resisting the impulse to run and closed the door slowly, once again stopping herself from slamming it as she wished. It would do no good to behave like a spoilt kid. Once inside her room she gave in an fell down on her bed in misery.

I bet he won't call. Mum's probally scared him off and now he'll be all weird and think he's taken advantage.

Giles sat next to the phone in the same spot he'd sat in for the last hour, pretty much since he'd gotten home from his encounter with Joyce Summers. Once more he reached for the phone and started dialing Buffy's number, after 3 digits he slammed the phone down. This motion had been repeated so many times in the last hour that he had her first 3 digits memorised. He'd also memorised what he'd say to her Mother when she answered the phone as she inevitably would,

What if she wont put me through to Buffy, even worse what if Buffy doesn't want to talk to me. Maybe she's realised it was a mistake and that she doesn't want me any more. Maybe she never did and I just pushed her into it. Oh God what if thats true? How could I face her?

Realising there was only one way to solve the problem he picked up the phone and dialled all of the numbers, waiting while it rang.

"Giles is that you?" Buffy asked.

"Yes, Buffy. I thought you would be banned from the phone."

"I am. I sneaked downstairs so.." Buffy's voice cut off and Giles heard a thud as the phone dropped down out of her hand. He assumed her Mother had interupted her and was about to ring off when he heard noises from down the phone. If he listened really hard he could hear the conversation going on in Buffy's house.

"That was him, wasn't it?" Joyce asked her daughter.

"What do you care?" was her daughters responce.

"Of course I care, Buffy. But I don't think you really understand what's going on here. He's forty Buffy and you're 17, how is that natural? And he's your teacher. People get put in jail for this. He has been abusing his position of authority as your teacher, watcher and your friend."

"No, mum you're the one who doesn't understand. I was the agressor here. He didn't feel it would be right but I persuaded him. He would never, ever do anything to hurt me. I trust him with my life and further more, I love him and am in love with him, allright?" Giles could hear the thumping as Buffy stormed upstairs. Dazed he put down the phone,

She said she loved me. She loves me. Wow.

Giles stood up so fast he knocked over the chair he'd been sitting on, and rushed to the door knocking over several more things on the way and not stopping to pick them up. He ran to his car and drove to Buffy's, if any traffic police had passed he would have been, quite likely, caught on hundreds of offences.

Standing outside buffy's front door he rang the bell, when Joyce opened the door, he barged in, in a quite un Giles-like manner not waiting for an invitation.

"Buffy" He called up the stairs and 2 seconds later she came running down.

"You love me." He told her in amazement.

"Of course I do Giles." Giles was lost for words so he picked her up and swung her round the room.

"I love you too." He told her.

Joyce sighed and quietly left the room. she had lost the battle but deep down she had always known it was a losing battle. Those two were meant for each other. But now Buffy was his and no longer her's , so she had felt the need to fight it anyway. She grabbed an old envelope and wrote on the back, leaving it where Buffy would find it and left the house.
