"Buffy! Willow!" Cordy squealed hugging the girls in turn.
"Come in Cordy. It's great to see you again." Buffy told her whilst extracting herself from Cordy's hug and opening the door further so that her friend could come in. The 3 girls went into the lounge.
"Pizza, ice cream and movies." Buffy announced "What else do we need for a girls night in?"
"Nothing" Willow told her.
"Well," Cordy started but a glare from the other two stopped her. "Ok. It's perfect."
The three friends settled down on the couch and played the first movie - Practical magic. Willow insisted on giving a running commentary on how the magic used in the film wasn't practical at all, but even she had to agree that it was worth watching the film in order to see Aidan Quinn.
"Lets play anywhere but here." Willow suggested once the film was over.
"Nah, I'm bored with that one" Buffy replied. "I can never think of anything original, I'm going to end up like Xander. I've got a variation: If you could choose any guy that you'd ever met to be with who'd it be? You have to have met him tho', so you can't choose John Cusack again, Will."
"Well, I guess it'd be Oz."
"Angel"
"Come on you guys!" Cordelia protested. "You can't be serious. Aren't you at all curious about anyone else. I for one wouldn't pick Xander. Been there, done that, You know? Move on Girls."
"Well… "Buffy started
"Yes.." the others prompted.
"I've always sort of had a thing for, don't go all wiggy on me now.."
"Just get on with it Buffy." Cordy told her.
"Giles. Cordy your turn." Buffy said, trying to move off the subject before the others had time to voice an opinion on the matter.
"Ok. But I mean yours was no biggy. It's not like we didn't already know that, the way you're always.." Buffy glared at her. "All right, all right, its Spike."
"Spike!" Willow squealed in shock.
"Well, yeah. You've gotta’ admit he's cute. And he helps us now. Willow your turn."
"Do I have to?"
"Yes"
"Ethan." She murmured
"Ethan Rayne? He nearly killed us 3 times!" Cordy's had been silly enough but Willows answer, in Buffy's, opinion was beyond the realms of stupid into suicidal. "Are you serious?"
"Well…yeah. I am and if you have a problem with that you can just. .I can't think of anything right now but you can do it." Willow retorted.
"Sorry, Will. I didn't mean it, each to their own and all but.."
An awkward silence descended on the trio as each sat pondering the others' choices. Finally Buffy broke the silence by inserting the next movie into the machine and opening the ice cream, with the scramble that followed in order that everyone got the most ice cream that they could, the revelations were forgotten.
Once the movie had finished however they returned to playing games.
"Lets play truth or dare" Cordy suggested. "I'll go first, truth."
"What was it like kissing Wesley?" Buffy asked
"Slimy!" she replied and the girls burst into fits of laughter.
"Ok. It's my turn now." Buffy announced. "Dare."
"Oohh. First dare of the evening. Lets think. I know. I dare you to go on a date with Giles. Not just training, a proper date."
"That’s not fair. He'll never go. you can't make me try."
"Sorry Buffy. Rules are rules." Willow told her with mock sorrow.
"Ok. I'll do it. But… only if you two join me. You have to ask Spike and Ethan."
"That’s not fair." Willow sulked. "How am I supposed to even get hold of Ethan. And then I have to go on a date with him. That would involve talking and well, he's scary."
"At least he's polite and scary, Spike is just scary. And where do you go on a date with a Vampire?"
"We can go to the Bronze, a triple date. Say you will, please?" Buffy begged, putting on her face generally reserved for getting out of training or begging her Mum for those urgent shoes she had to have.
Cordy was the first to cave. "Ok. And Willow, sorry but you can get hold of Ethan. He's just opened a magic shop in Sunnydale. I saw it coming in, he's not very original. Once again he's called it 'Ethan's'"
"I can't believe you didn't tell me that scum bag was back." Buffy berated Cordy. "I still need to beat him to a bloody pulp. Oh sorry Willow. I guess I can postpone."
"Let’s set a date. Next Saturday, I can get down from LA for the day and we can prepare together."
The 3 girls shook hands on their dare and started to make plans for the entrapment of their menfolk.

Willow walked along the road to 'Ethan's' muttering quietly to herself,
"I can do this, I can do this."
She reached the magic shop and entered. It reminded her of Ethan's previous foray into the world of retail. Only this time instead of costumes scatted throughout the shop, it was herbs, robes, jewellery and lots of books. Willow picked up the nearest book and started to flick through it. After all it wouldn't do to let Ethan think she was stalking him or anything.
"How may I be of assistance?" His voice asked from over her shoulder.
"Ethan!" She exclaimed in an attempt to appear surprised, either it succeeded or her nervousness showed through, as he stayed very polite and didn't try any spells on her or try to run away as he normally did in difficult situations.
"Hello. One of Ripper's friends, aren't you. Willow, isn't it?"
"Yes, uh, Willow, that’s me. Willow. I'm just here to look at magic books I didn't know you'd be here."
"Are you alright?" Ethan asked in response to Willow's stuttered rambling. "Would you like some coffee?"
"No, no. Coffee makes me jumpy."
"Really?" Ethan asked incredulous that she could be any more jumpy. "What book do you have there 'Animal transformation and reverse transformations.'"
"Yeah. Well, I have a friend who turned herself into a rat and I couldn't turn her back." Ethan started smirking at this. "It's not funny!" Willow told him, as irritation replaced her nervousness.
"It is just a little amusing isn't it." Ethan replied but he stopped laughing in an unusual bout of empathy as he could see that she was quite upset about the incident. He rang the book up on the till and wrapped it up in brown paper, like in old black and white movies.
"That'll be $12.00" Ethan told her as he passed the book back to her.
"There you are." She gave him the money and then before she could lose the courage she asked him. "Will you go on a date with me?"
"Sorry, did I hear you right?"
"Will you go on a date with me?" She asked again with more confidence, as he hadn't rejected her out of hand.
"This isn’t some kind of trick so that Ripper and the slayer can beat me up, is it?"
"I'm serious." Willow told him. "Saturday at the Bronze, will you come?"
"Well, if you put it that way how can I refuse? Shall I pick you up? 8ish?"
Willow nodded her ascent and scribbled her address down on the brown paper on the book, ripped it off and gave it to Ethan.
Cordy and Buffy had decided it would be easier if they asked their men simultaneously, that way neither could inform the other and give them time to think about it. Much easier if they have to make a snap decision, no time to make up excuses. The girls let themselves into Giles apartment, as Buffy had been given a key for emergencies. Spike and Giles were in the lounge, Giles was reading and trying to ignore Spike who was whistling noisily, quite possibly for the sole reason of upsetting Giles.
"Hi Guys." Buffy greeted them as she and Cordelia entered the room. "Giles, can I talk to you?"
"Certainly. Kitchen?"
"Sure. Fine." She replied and they left the room leaving Cordy and Spike to themselves.
"Hey Spike."
"Cordelia."
After a minutes silence Spike grudgingly asked, "How's LA?"
"Yeah, it's OK." Another minutes silence. "Spike?"
"What?"
"Um, well, I was wondering, if you'd go to the Bronze with me next week?"
"Sure, I suppose. Why?"
"I just felt like asking you."
"Oh. All right. I'll see you there then." And the couple descended back into silence.
*****
"Was there a problem during your rounds?" Giles asked Buffy as they entered the kitchen.
"No, no problem. I mean there were 3 vamps but they weren't anything special and they didn't even put up much of a fight really.
"So what did you want to talk to me about?" Giles asked
"Well, it's not a supernatural thing, more personal."
"Yes?" he prompted her politely.
"This is kinda hard…" Buffy explained to him. In order to avoid looking at him she decided to look through his fridge instead.
"Come on Buffy, you can tell me. We've been through enough together."
"It's not really a tell thing, more of an ask thing. Um, will you go on a date with me?" she asked peeking round the fridge door ready to duck back in if he didn't respond well.
"Uh, a-a Date? Why would you want to do that?" This was the response she hadn't wanted, now she would have to try and explain herself…and end up making a complete fool out of her self in front of him. She went back to looking through his fridge in a vain hope that possibly she wouldn't have to answer.
"Buffy?" He continued.
"Well, why wouldn't I? You're not with anyone, I'm not with anyone. Why not?"
"Buffy, Is this some kind of joke, let's see how far we can push the old man?"
"No. Why can't I just want to be with you? Is it so impossible? If you don't want to just say, and forget I asked."
"Don't be silly Buffy. I'm not asking to embarrass you. I suppose I just don't really understand. But if it would make you happy then of course I will go with you." Buffy gave him a shy grin and then ran from the kitchen back into the lounge.
"Cordy? You ready?"
"Yeah. Lets go" Cordelia replied obviously as relieved to have it over as Buffy was. They walked a little bit down the road before Cordy asked, "Well?"
"He said yes. You?"
"Yeah, Spike too. So if Willow's went as planned all we have to do now is shop, oh and do the date thing. But that shouldn't be too bad should it?" Buffy gave her an incredulous look.
"Giles, Ethan and Spike. All together? For a whole evening? Could it get any worse?"
