Ring, Ring

Willow answered the phone. It was Giles.

"Willow, I wanted to ask you a favour."

"Sure Giles, what is it?"

"Umm, I was wondering if you'd go to the funeral with me. I don't think I can face it on my own."

"Oh, Of course I will. I miss her so much Giles, I keep thinking I should have done something as her watcher."

"You couldn't do anything Will, we always knew she'd die young and that none of us would be able to stop it. It's one of the facts of the job."

Two days later

Willow heard the doorbell ring.

It was Giles. Willow threw her arms around him.

"I haven't seen you for so long, I can't believe we lost touch when you moved to England."

"Well, yes, but you didn't need me anymore, you're a watcher in your own right now, you don't need a retired one hanging on."

"Don't be silly Giles. We've got to go now or we'll be late for the funeral."

Somehow they both survived the service and made it to the graveyard. Unconsciously Willow took hold of Giles' hand for comfort. She looked up at him and he smiled down. Then they turned back to the grave.

The reception afterwards was held in Buffy's old house. Willow and Giles entered together, but Giles was soon whisked off by Xander, Cordy and others who all wanted to catch up on all his news.

Willow found herself a corner in which she could sit and reminisce.

15 mins into her thought and the tears started rolling down her cheeks, her best friend had died under her protection. It was almost too much for her to bear.

Giles extracated himself from the group of old aquantences that were pestering him. He walked over to Willow and picked up the now distraught watcher. He carried her up the stairs and into Joyce's room thinking that this room was the least likly to hold any memories. He set her down on the bed and sat down beside her stroking her hair. After a few minutes she calmed down.

Willow sat up on the bed and putting her arms around Giles, hugged him tight.

Giles bent his head and kissed her tenderly on the lips.

Willow pulled back violently.

"Giles...no....don't"

Giles stood up. Distancing himself from Willow.

"I'm sorry Willow, I just thought......I've loved you for so long....I just.....dammit."

Giles walked out of the room closing the door behind him.

Today had been too much for Willow. Buffy's Funeral and now the man she had admired from afar for so long declaring his love. It was too confusing. She felt she had to go home.

Willow sneaked down the stairs and left via the backdoor to avoid meeting anyone, Giles in particular.

She needn't have worried about meeting Giles. He had already left.

When Giles arrived at his hotel, he checked the answer machine. There 2 messages. The first was Willow on her mobile.

"Giles, I need to talk to you"

The second was Willow at home.

"Giles, please come round, we've really got to talk."

Giles almost turned around to go to Willow's house, but he talked himself out of it.

Don't be stupid, man. She's broken your heart once already today, you don't need it broken again."

Then the phone rang. He left it for the machine. It was Willow again.

"God dammit, Giles, I want you, I need you, I love you. Now will you please get yourself around here."

Giles played the message through again to make sure he wasn't dreaming and headed for his car.
