When I turned 18 a couple of my friends thought it would be cool to go to a club. So we went to one. We got all the way down there when I realized that I'd forgotten my ID back in my car at school which was about 50 miles away. There were 5 of us in the car. The driver, the passenger, my friend, another guy, and myself. My friend and the other guy stayed at the club and myself, the driver, and the passenger went back to get my ID. We got my ID and we were heading back to the club when we hit the back of an 18-wheeler flat bed truck.
We were in the second lane of traffic and the truck had just gotten on the freeway. The truck started to drift over into our lane, with no blinker (punk). The driver of the car couldn't go to the left lane because there was an SUV there, and the truck just kept on going. By the time we all realized that it was indeed moving into our lane, there wasn't much that could be done. The driver slammed on the brakes, locked them up, and I watched the back of the truck come closer and closer. I seriously thought that I was going to die that night. I've never been more mad at myself than I was at that moment. How could I have been so stupid?? I had JUST turned 18 the day before, and here I was dying. I didn't even get to vote yet! And for what? A club!! Boy, were there some people who were going to be upset at me. My mom, my dad, all of little siblings...and then we hit the car. I don't remember hearing anything, or seeing anything, or feeling much other than not being able to breathe. Needless to say, I made it out ok, just a couple of bruises. And the driver and the other passenger were fine other than bruises. Seat belts and air bags saved all of us from more serious injury and possible death.
Please, be extremely careful out on the road, and make sure you know what is going on around you.
