We sat and talked like friends
Easy conversation flowing
Back and forth...
like a lazy summer afternoon spent lounging
on a hammock swinging to and fro...

we shared laughs, smiles and secrets
intimacies uncounted
without our wolf's clothes
without our ever present armor

just us

sitting on a bench outside a familiar place
somehow new in this hazy noon daylight
the sun beating down
illuminating our talk

illuminating

the incandescent truth ringing clear
a passing trolley whistles in unison
with my stinging soul
wounded

Sensing my destruction,
The weight of all that's done
Some things left undone
"I'm really starting to like it here"
he says with a slight smile
and I catch a glimpse of the truth
his insecurity
"I'm really starting to like you"
I think he meant to say.
