TO JANNA...ON YOUR BIRTHDAY by Mom Fantasy...Memory Memory...Fantasy Of the way things used to be I see you dancing gracefully When you were still here with me Teaching French so fluently The child I love eternally Rocking babies tenderly Memory...Fantasy Fantasy...Memory Marriage and a college degree My heart and mind won't set you free A husband and a family I still cling very stubbornly A future that will never be To all you were and are to me Fantasy...Memory Memory...Fantasy Your life will still live on in me Dreams of how your life would be A life that ended tragically Conjured scenes of what should be Cut short unexpectedly The promise broken suddenly

I’m sure you burst through Heaven’s door with a cheery, “HI, I’M HOME!” I know you followed God around breathlessly relating the adventures of your “day” on earth. I pray He does not become tired of your bubbly patter. If I’d known how short your time with us I would have listened more closely and treasured every word. It hurts me deeply to know that I once considered your incessant chatter a nuisance. I would give my life to hear “HI, MA, I’M HOME!” just one more time. Mom

I emerge from death's rough ocean "There's nothing here but unreined joy;
And crawl out bruised and sore You'll soon forget the hurt
Earth's memory receding No hunger, pain, or anger
Like the waves upon His shore. No trials, no stress, no dirt.
Though hard to gasp my final breath "The light that's all around us?
And fear and dread have grown, You'll adjust to no more night.
I draw my sword of faith and hope All that He created is
Against the great unknown. Illumined with His light.
A timid step through Heaven's door "You've noticed that sweet humming.
I try to guess my fate It echoes through our days.
What might I witness here within The grass and trees and all He made
My Savior's rich estate? Are singing out His praise.
A welcome crowd surrounds me; "The streets are gold beneath our feet
A sea of loved ones gone. His light around us clear
I greet each one with passion; Sparkling through the dewdrops
In forever's early dawn. He fashioned from your tears.
Is that my precious daughter "Right there stands our mansion;
Stolen from me long ago? We'll sleep on beds of bliss
She's more beautiful than ever, And dine on fruits of ecstasy
Anointed with God's glow! Sweetened by His kiss.
My mourning turns to dancing; "His castle's next...we'll go right in;
I've waited for so long! We need no invitation.
She hugs me now in greeting; He's always home...we're welcome here
Her voice is my heart's song! Our ticket is salvation.
"Hi, Ma! You're home at last! "His blinding light's reflected
There's so much here to see! Upon the angels' wings,
Sights you've never seen on earth Your ears will ring with wondrous awe
And all of them are free! To hear His choir sing!
"We've much to do together; "Look there! He sits upon His throne;
Greet loved ones from our past. The source of love and grace.
Find new friends and meet our Lord; Your heart will burst within its cage
I know we'll have a blast! To gaze upon His face!
"Come through the pearly portal "Pure love will overwhelm you
Lay your heavy burden down As you fall upon your knee.
You get to cash it in at last And breathlessly adore Him
And get your golden crown. In all His majesty.
"Here's the piece of heart I took "Take all the time you think you'll need
When torn out from your breast. To worship Him anew.
I've kept it safe for all these years Commune with Him and thank Him for
To put back with the rest. His gift of love to you.
"It's whole again and here's your soul; "Ive so much more to share with you;
The Lord has kept it well. More things to do and see.
Protected from the arrows shot But we'll save the rest for later;
Out from the depths of hell. We have all eternity!"

In His awesome presence
Among the multitudes I kneel
Overjoyed, yet fearful
Can't believe the way I feel
Too fearful to lift my head
Scared to open my eyes to see
Worshipful, but anticipating
Waiting on bended knee
His sudden voice breaks the silence
A thunder of power and might
While also a silky soothing caress
A whisper in darkest night
Can't bear it any longer
Must peek at this great mystery
When I finally dare to look at His face
He is looking directly at me
He calls my name, but I am mute
What can He want with me?
He reaches and gently lifts me up
And suddenly I'm free
The throngs around me fade away
I'm here with Him alone
I see the lovelight in His eyes
And know that I've come home

Janna's Story..."And can it be that in a world so full and busy, the loss of one creature makes a void in any heart, so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of eternity can fill up?"--Charles Dickens
Janna and Chris..."It's terrifying to care, of course, and the young man whom I once heard say to the girl whose hand he was holding, "Shit, I think I love you," in the ominous tones of someone declaring that he was coming down with the plague, probably put the fear that accompanies loving as graphically as it can be put."--Merle Shain, Some Men Are More Perfect Than Others
Janna's Scottish Dancing..."For one brief moment, she lives a dream: dancing into eternity."--from Janna's Journals
Janna's Photo Album..."You may chisel a boy into shape, as you would a rock, or hammer him into it, if he be of a better kind, as you would a piece of bronze. But you cannot hammer a girl into anything. She grows as a flower does."--John Ruskin
Chris's Photo Album..."What you're doing with a clown like me, is surely one of life's little mysteries. What did I do? What did I say, to turn your angel eyes my way?"--John Hiatt/Fred Killer, Angel Eyes
