The Caves

This picture is Jeffrey Bedrick's "meadow magic". Left click on the picture

I chose it because the woods in the background remind me of the woods/caves that we have owned for the last 5 years.
From next week they will no longer be ours. I never really felt we owned them, we just had custody of them for a while.
Having spectacular limestone caverns on your land as a private sanctury to run to when the world gets to you is a privilage indeed.
I have never really tried to describe the caves - I couldn't. They are a very slowly collapsing limestone cave system with ancient woodland -massive trees
growing straight out of the rock face in some places. The trees are all covered in ivy, there are long trails of ivy from the natual limestone arches to the
river below. Each area holds a different kind of magic. Some of the ancient trees are hollow. There are ferns everywhere and in the spring the
whole place gains a carpet of wild garlic and bluebells. I recon there are Leprachauns there - they all have garlic breath!.
A lovely "out of this world",world.
I have come to terms in the last year with the decision to move but I have been very happy here and I will miss the caves desperatly when we leave. I plan to get a digital camera
and take lots of photo's in the next few months. I asked my husband where/why my whole fairy thing started - his answer was quite simple "we live where the fairies are!". There certainly is a magical feel about the whole place. When there was a big house here and things were going well they apparently
used to have parties down at the caves and the place was lit with candles and fairie lights. I wish I could have seen it!
So it is with sadness I will say farewell to the caves. They have helped to give me a new understanding of the world around me. Thanks to them we have had many interesting visitors from all over the world.
We live off a quiet country lane down an even quieter lane so it is remarkable really that anyone should have found us - Maybe the fairies brought them here!
