For over 90 years one predominantly African-American fraternity has been a beacon of light for many men. It has grown strong in conviction and purpose and large in numbers. Founded in the capital of our great nation on one of the most prestigious Historically Black Universities in the U.S. The name of this great Fraternity you might ask…well its Omega Psi Phi of course! From the very birth of Omega, expansion has been at the forefront. To spread the message of brotherhood and service to each other, our families and communities is a message that the men of Omega Psi Phi have been sharing since the beginning. One branch of that tree has also grown and sprouted leaves of distinction among the ranks of Omega.

This is the story of The “MIGHTY” Epsilon Nu Chapter, Spartanburg, S.C.!

Two friends from Spartanburg, S.C. entered Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. (James “Skin” Austin and C. Tyrone Gilmore).  These young men were aspiring to be successful and productive citizens in their community, so they decided to join a fraternity that would help them accomplish their goals. So, on December 13, 1962 they were inducted into the Lambda Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Upon receiving their degrees they returned to Spartanburg in 1965 and sought to establish a chapter there. Though the road was rugged they successfully accomplished their mission. And on June 10, 1967 EPSILON NU CHAPTER was incorporated.

In 1967 the beginnings were hard and met with negative opposition. But through a persistent effort EPSILON NU CHAPTER came into existence June 10, 1967. She has always been involved in many community activities, and her tentacles have reached out to many in our society. She’s lost many faithful and strong Brothers. And has at times been staggered by the crushing blows of life. But Epsilon Nu has never crumbled under pressure or withered in the midst of turmoil. Many have remained and others have followed and many more wish to follow that beacon of light. Men of all professions, interests, backgrounds and ages have graced Omega with service and dedication. You don’t have to look far to see the impact that Epsilon Nu has had in the community. She stands tall and still seeks to serve and contribute to the world. And with the loyalty, brotherhood and dedication she has established she will continue to “See it Through”!
