Batgirl's Weapons and Equipment

Batgirl (being a bat-hero) carried many weapons and equipment.  However, her weapons were somewhat limited compared to Batman's.  You can't really compare the sallary of a millionare philanthropist to a librarian. This makes her have to use physical combat more than Batman, who could rely as much on his Visa card. The fact that she designed and created many of these weapons herself is even more extraordinary.  And of course, she probably just bought some.  From what I've heard, the most expensive piece of equipment that she has is the Batcycle--and motorcycles were very cheap when she was first introduced in the sixties.

Bat-Bike/Batcycle

Batgirl rides a motercycle called the Bat-Bike, Batcycle, or Batgirl cycle.   In the comics, it has the bat-logo, and is custom-designed for her own purposes. From the comics, I have seen several different types of Batcycles. It contains various peices of special equipment, including a highly sophisticated multi-colored light tracking device. It is also capable of going at extremely fast speeds. Near the end of her carrer, Batgirl began to sometimes leave her motorcycle behind.  She preferred to move on foot through small areas.

In the television series, it is purple, and has a lot of ruffles, bows, and laces.  It also has a bat for a rear-view mirror. She always had it stored in a secret freight-elevator behind her apartment. This was changed from the original pilot version, which was more hi-tech and less feminine. In the Animated Series comic, it seems to be just a regular blue and black motorcycle.

In the Animated Series (new), I am not certain, but she does possess it.

Batarrang

Batgirl carries batarrangs in her utility belt. This is a throwing weapon somewhat like the Australian Aboriginal boomerang, and somewhat like the shuriken of the Japaneese martial art of Ninjitsu. Like the boomerang, the batarrang can return to her. Also, like the shuriken it can be used to cut things, and knock weapons out of peoples' hands. It is a very useful weapon with many purpouses, a common weapon among bat-heros.

Smoke Bombs

Within her utility belt, she carries many smoke bombs. She uses them to blind her foes. This is one of her most frequently used weapons.

Tear Gas Pellets

Within her utility belt, she carries capsles filled with tear gas. She can use them to gag her opponent, which she does every once in a while. She can also use them for basically the same purposes that she does for the smoke bombs.

Bola

Within her utility belt, she carries a bola. A bola is throwing weapon traditionally used to tie up animals in South America. She uses one to tie up her foes. It looks like four pieces of rope with black balls on the ends. By spinning and accurately throwing, she can tie up an enemy instaneously, before they have time to react. The bola is by far one of her most powerful weapons.

Swingline w/Grapple

Within her utility belt, she carries a swingline with a grappling hook. By pressing two buttons on the side (Animated Series), she can shoot the grapple out to grab onto something, like the top of a building. In the comics, it is a regular rope and grappling hook. The rope and grappling hook is capable of holding over 300 lbs. She can use it to swing (as if she were flying), or she can use it to climb.  This is the most common piece of equipment used by any Bat hero.

Variable other pieces of Equipment/"Utility Pocketbook"

Batgirl carries/carried various other peices of equipment on ocassion. She used to carry other items in a red utility "purse" that strapped to her belt, but has since disguarded it because of its bulkiness. (Pre-crisis). On her adventures she has also on occassion carried flares, gas-masks, first-aid kit, a camera, a flashlight, and others. Batgirl also carries a fingerprint kit and voice recorder. Once she even carried a marble! She also regularly carries a radio.

Computer System

Oracle has one of the best personal computer setups imaginable.  She has three computers, inter-connected with a modem and Internet access.  I also believe it has a lot of memory, and I'm not sure if they are Mac's or IBMs, but I believe it is an IBM. Her computers have over 265 colors.  This is about all I know about them. In the movie, Barbara Wilson carries an Apple eMate300. It has a Newton OS and is designed to be a portable computer for education.

Cowl Lenses

Barbara can press a button on her cowl which puts various lenses over her eyes.  She has a clear lens, a telescopic-vision lens, a microsopic-vision lens, a thermal lens, and a multi-light tracer lens. The multi-light tracer device has replaced her Batcycle's function.
