Current Projects Page for "New Euro Keys"

This is the place where you can see projects evolve, as it moves along.

"It's all about progress, criticise what's here today, and make better"

These are the older stages of the New Euro Keys German Dvorak Style Keyboard Layout, before it branched into two pieces.

OK, only change = U with umlat and the # ' key are swapped.

German Dvorak, revision 1.3c

Right, this is the same as 1.3a, but with a more standard Dvorak key layout.

German Dvorak, revision 1.3b

I have now improved the umlat key positions somewhat. Remember, this is not basic Dvorak layout, there are differences. I, U, H, D, Z, L, T, R, P have all been moved, mostly swapped with each other. Just compare with this pic to the very first layout at the bottom of the page - spot the difference!

I can easily make they keys back to their normal postions. The I, U, H, D, Z, L, T, R, P movements were done back in v1.1 of the keyboard, but of course if preffered the can be defaulted.

Also I have moved the ß key to an AltGr postion, so you can press \ with one key stroke.

The / on Winkey has totally gone now, because it is not possible, and not missed either.

German Dvorak, revision 1.3a

NOTE: I can go back to v1.0 and implement the comments, but I felt v.1.1 was better, so I used it, but this a free project, just post your comments in the Altkeyboards forum!

After reading some comments posted about Dvorak v1.0, I took my 1.1 and implemented those comments into the keyboard, here is the result:

German Dvorak, revision 1.2a

During the course of the day, I searched information about German word and letter frequency. After some time, I came up with German Dvorak Keyboard revision 1.1, and here it is:

German Dvorak, revision 1.1

Differences from 1.0:

Umlat keys (dotted letters, O A U) Moved, in accordance to my findings.

A few letters moved around, I, U, H, D, Z, L, T, R, P have all been moved - but don't worry, they are not badly placed, I used my findings of key usage in German to move these, as well.

German Dvorak, revision 1.0

Main differences over basic Dvorak:

I have made the layout so that somebody with a standard QWERTZ German keyboard can "ping" the keys off and change them around; there are no keys which don't fit this rule. I have, however made some additions which I think will help: To get a forward slash / you can press Shift+7 (The normal German way) or, for ease you can press AltGr+RightWinKey, they are right next to each other, and it's near where the forward slash is on standard US/UK QWERTY. I have added a Euro symbol in the standard place, one the 4 key, by pressing AltGr+4. Also, the pound sign and the ¬ symbol are additions to the keyboard. I have moved the dead "accent" keys around, to make them easier to use. But I'm happy with the keyboard for the most part, except the O, A, U. (With umlats [little double dots] above). Why? Because I'm sure they will be used more than some of the other keys in the German language. They are too far off to the right, QWERTZ style. I'm pretty happy with it apart from that. I'm also open to moving a few letters around to make it easier for German lanaguage typing.
