A nice interpretation of the Alice in Wonderland movie. There are some cool effects and a great finale.

. . . I always thought it was cool that this dark ride went outdoors. . .
. . . I get the feeling sometimes that this is the forgotten Fantasyland dark ride. It's hidden on the other side of the castle walls and there is never much of a line. It really seems like an afterthought squeezed between the castle and the Matterhorn. . .
. . . I really like the effects in this ride: the marching playing cards, the projected hedgehog croquet ball, the disappearing Cheshire cat, and the great ending with the exploding cake. . .
. . . Have you noticed that the card that the Queen of Hearts orders to cut your head off is the Ace of Spades (a.k.a. the Death Card)? . .

pointless trivia

  • This ride is the focal point of an Alice in Wonderland "Mini-Land," which also includes the Tea Cups (which were moved here from the center of Fantasyland in 1983) and the Mad Hatter's Shop. (The E-Ticket, Spring 1999).
  • Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum were not a part of the original 1958 version of the attraction. Also not present were the Royal Croquet Game scene and the Queen of Hearts. These characters and scenes were added in 1984. (Ibid)
  • The sculpted Alice figure (a last minute addition to the 1984 version) and other Wonderland characters were in storage from the Magic Kingdom's Mickey Mouse Revue (which closed in Florida in 1980). (Ibid)
  • The 1958 version ended with the Mad Tea Party at the top of the ride before you exit outdoors. Afterward, the ride vehicle would slowly descend the leaf ramp back to the beginning. To alleviate this anti-climatic finish a new section was added with the exploding "un-birthday" cake. (Ibid)
  • Much of the ride on the upper level is actually directly over Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
  • Actress, Kathryn Beaumont, voice of Alice in the movie, also provided her voice for the attraction. (Disneyland Dreams, Traditions and Transitions) - search for it on amazon.com
  • Like the first version of the ride, (which debuted three years after the original dark rides) the refurbished version re-opened late on April 14, 1984; a year after the New Fantasyland debuted in Spring 1983. (Disney News, Winter 1983-84)
